This year’s ERS Congress was a great chance to discuss the latest in respiratory care, and I’m encouraged by the growing consensus amongst the respiratory community on the need for earlier diagnosis and intervention in chronic respiratory diseases, which impact an estimated 550 million people globally. Despite this groundswell of support for transforming approaches to conditions like COPD and asthma, there is still a lot of work to do to advance timely uptake of guideline-directed care. Learn more from leading respiratory experts Arzu Yorgancioglu, Simon Couillard and Richard Russell on the current state of respiratory care and where we need to go from here in this new piece in the EMJ: https://bit.ly/3MGVGn6 #ERSCongress2024

NL Health Services is recognizing World COPD Day today (Nov. 20) by hosting for the first time the INSPIRED Atlantic Roundtable. The roundtable brings together experts to discuss respiratory diseases like chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD), innovation and community-based programming. By drawing worldwide attention to respiratory diseases and holding roundtable meetings, we hope to improve the lives of those living with diseases such as COPD and/or asthma. Individuals who believe that the Comprehensive Respiratory Care program may be of benefit to them or their family are encouraged to contact their primary health-care provider for more information. https://lnkd.in/eNvRQePa #WorldCOPDDay #COPDAwareness #LungHealth

Today is World Asthma Day and we want use the occasion to promote a better future for respiratory health 🌱 Lets address the unmet needs of people with severe asthma today. Access to quality care for severe asthma varies significantly across the globe. In many cases, care pathways and reimbursement policies – rather than lack of resources – make a difference in the outcomes of severe asthma care. #SevereAsthmaIndex found the potential to improve existing resource allocation within healthcare systems to improve patient outcomes. Read the extract of our Index Report below and download the full version 👉 https://lnkd.in/dQF3v5Ei The Severe Asthma Index is a data-driven tool that enables countries to explore national variation and gaps in care in support of driving policy action to address the unmet needs of people with severe asthma. 🌬️ Early detection of respiratory diseases: a key to better health Respiratory diseases like asthma and COPD are among the leading causes of illness globally, but catching these conditions early can dramatically improve patient outcomes. Spirometry, a simple and non-invasive test, plays a vital role in this early detection, helping healthcare providers intervene before the disease progresses. We are dedicated to improving respiratory care through accessible spirometry solutions, comprehensive training, and global initiatives. Learn how we’re working to enhance early detection and provide better health outcomes worldwide. When it comes to respiratory health, early detection can make all the difference. Identifying pulmonary conditions like COPD, asthma, and other respiratory diseases in their initial stages allows for faster intervention, more effective treatment, and improved patient outcomes. Key reasons why early detection is critical in pulmonary care: ✅ Prevent disease progression – Catching conditions early can slow or stop their advancement ✅ Optimize treatment plans – Tailor interventions based on timely, accurate assessments ✅ Improve quality of life – Early care minimizes symptoms, hospitalizations, and complications ✅ Reduce healthcare costs – Timely treatment often leads to fewer medical interventions later on Innovations like AGM100 are helping clinicians diagnose and manage pulmonary conditions with greater precision. Let’s prioritize early detection to ensure better respiratory health for all! Today, we're honoured to be at UK Parliament, shining a spotlight on the critical findings and the concerning lack of action following the publication of the National Review of Asthma Deaths (NRAD) 10 years ago. A decade later, lung health continues to be a low national priority and asthma outcomes in the UK are among the poorest in Europe. Available data show there has been a 46% increase in hospital admissions and in the last decade alone, over 12,000 adults and children have lost their lives to asthma. Well before and in the years after NRAD, the respiratory community have tirelessly advocated for a transformation in how asthma is managed and treated, and yet despite these efforts, little has changed. Today, we are proud to stand alongside the Taskforce for Lung Health and system partners supporting a call to action for government and NHS intervention. Let’s make the next decade different with a zero-tolerance approach to asthma deaths. #NRADat10 #asthmacare
In 2014 Royal College of Physicians published its National Review of Asthma Deaths (NRAD) which revealed critical insights into the gaps in asthma care. Shockingly, 10 years on, very little progress has been made. Today, we are proud to stand alongside clinicians, patients and system partners across the respiratory community, to call for an end to preventable asthma deaths. At the All Party Parliamentary Group (APPG) for Respiratory Health at UK Parliament we will join others in calling for a zero-tolerance approach to #asthma deaths. #WorldAsthmaDay2024 #NRADat10 #Asthmacare

Asthma, one of the most common respiratory diseases, affects more than 260 million people worldwide and is responsible for over 450,000 deaths each year, many of which are preventable. This #WorldAsthmaDay, we raise awareness of this global public health issue, which has such a fundamental impact to patients in their daily lives. Special shout out to all the parents who are helping their kiddos manage respiratory disease, often navigating a complicated healthcare system to find the right treatments and manage emergency events. My own journey with this little patient gave me first-hand experience not only in the complexities of managing respiratory challenges, but also the immense challenge we have as researchers as we work to better understand diseases where care is fragmented across primary care doctors, specialists, urgent care and emergency rooms. To understand and improve disease management, we need to understand real-world patient experiences, elevating and relying on the patient voice to hear directly from those most impacted and get a comprehensive view of the patient journey.
