🌍 European Commission publishes first AI Code of Practice draft! 📜 Yesterday, the European Commission published its first draft of the General-Purpose #ArtificialIntelligence Code of Practice. Its four working groups, two of which feature representatives from EthicAI, will now provide feedback on the Code. Key aspects include #transparency, enforcement of #copyright, systemic risk taxonomy, risk assessment methods, and mitigation measures for systemic risks. The first draft is based on contributions from a multistakeholder consultation organised by the EC's #AI Office. We believe establishing guidelines like this through #open processes will lead to better trust in and uses of AI. EthicAI builds #trust in AI solutions. We believe ethics-driven AI helps our clients minimise the risks and maximise the benefits of AI deployment. #TrustworthyAI #AINews #AIStrategy #AIForBusiness #ethicalAI #AIethics #genAI #responsibleAI #AIgovernance #AIlaw #AIpolicy (🔗 to article in comments)

The EU AI Act: Navigating AI’s New Frontier 🤖 Artificial intelligence is transforming industries, streamlining operations, and driving innovation. But with great power comes responsibility. Misuse of AI - whether biased algorithms, incorrect fraud detections, or even public surveillance - has highlighted the need for robust regulation to protect health, safety, and human rights. This is where the EU AI Act steps in, setting the stage for responsible AI development and use. 📜 The EU AI Act adopts a risk-based approach, classifying systems from low to high risk, with strict guidelines for those impacting critical sectors like healthcare and public safety. This framework not only mitigates risks but also provides legal clarity for businesses, enabling innovation within defined boundaries. The regulation is a step toward ensuring that AI empowers, rather than harms, society. You want to understand the requirements of building strong AI governance systems and ensure that your organization is ready to lead responsibly in the evolving AI landscape? The European Union reached a great achievement in the field of technology and innovation as the Council of the EU officially approved the first global regulations on Artificial Intelligence (The AI Act) This legislation emphasises trust, transparency, and accountability, ensuring AI can flourish while safeguarding society. It aims to harmonise AI rules across Europe, promoting the development of safe, trustworthy AI systems and protecting fundamental rights. The AI Act categorises AI systems based on risk, ensuring that higher-risk applications face stricter scrutiny, including banning practices like cognitive behavioural manipulation and social scoring. 𝐌𝐚𝐣𝐨𝐫 𝐡𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐥𝐢𝐠𝐡𝐭𝐬 𝐨𝐟 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐀𝐈 𝐀𝐜𝐭 𝐢𝐧𝐜𝐥𝐮𝐝𝐞: 1. Ethical Standards: Ensuring AI systems respect fundamental rights and freedoms. 2. Transparency: Mandating clear information about AI capabilities and limitations. 3. Accountability: Establishing mechanisms for holding AI developers and users accountable. 4. Safety and Security: Implementing stringent measures to protect users and society. 5. Innovation Support: AI regulatory sandboxes to test and validate new AI technologies. 6. Prohibited Practices: Bans on AI for predictive policing, social scoring, and more. As an AI developer and consultant, I believe this Act will not only safeguard the public but also inspire greater confidence in AI technologies. It's a step towards harmonising AI regulations and setting a global benchmark. #AI #ArtificialIntelligence #EthicsInAI #AIGovernance #CouncilOfEurope #AIRegulation #ResponsibleAI

AI safety, governance and regulatory risk: a very thorough review of the arguments for and against taking AI safety 'seriously' from the UN's chief advisor, Yoshua Bengio. He argues that AI governance requires social and political elements, as well as technical solutions. ✔ His proposal for 'principles-based' legislation/international agreements makes a lot of sense. This aligns with current UK regulatory philosophy and is well suited to the current uncertainty around AI development because it focuses on outcomes rather than specific mechanisms. ❓ This contrasts with current US, China and EU approaches which are more 'rules-based'. 💡 Clearly we want to stimulate innovation and, at the same time, ensure accountability. So we need to have governance systems that allow us to stay flexible and adapt to unforeseeable scenarios, rather than imagine that we can double-guess them all. ⚠ Laws, regulations and standards mustn't unnecessarily box us in. The broader implications are very significant for such a powerful new technology... --------------------------------- Do share this post with others and subscribe to our new newsletter on AI Risk & Strategy here: https://lnkd.in/eKaSpwFM #airisk #airiskmanagement #aigovernance #responsibleai

Excited to share that I have successfully completed a course on the AI Act organised by NOMIKI BIBLIOTHIKI ! 🚀 This course provided valuable insights into the regulatory framework for artificial intelligence in the EU. Key topics included: ✅ Ethical implications of AI deployment ✅ Risk classifications (in chapter III) and governance requirements outlined in the AI Act ✅ Οbligations for providers and deployers of AI systems ✅ Penalties and other enforcement measures applicable to infringements of the Regulation ❗ The AI Act will apply from August 2, 2026, with Chapters I and II becoming applicable earlier, on February 2, 2025. However, as of now, the supervisory authorities responsible for overseeing compliance have not yet been appointed. Understanding the AI Act is crucial as it will shape the future of AI innovation and responsible implementation. #AIAct #ArtificialIntelligence #EthicalAI #Compliance
