Incessant rain has been affecting Jharkhand, prompting the weather department to issue an orange alert for heavy to very heavy rainfall in various parts of the state. The rainfall has persisted for the past two days, but local meteorologists predict a reduction in rainfall intensity over the next 48 hours. The ongoing downpour has caused significant damage, particularly in Garhwa and Latehar districts, where several culverts and diversions were washed away. Farmers have reported damage to standing paddy crops due to the combination of heavy rain and wind. On Sunday, Garhwa received the highest rainfall in the state, measuring 152.8 mm, while Ranchi's Budmu area recorded 112.2 mm and Daltonganj saw over 110 mm. Abhishek Anand, in charge of the Ranchi Meteorological Centre, stated that an orange alert has been specifically issued for the northwestern districts of Garhwa, Palamu, Chatra, and Latehar. Residents, particularly those in low-lying areas, have been urged to remain vigilant as the weather system is expected to gradually move west and cross Jharkhand within the next 24 hours. The forecast indicates widespread rainfall for Monday, with a notable decline expected by Tuesday, when light to moderate rain is anticipated across parts of Jharkhand. Since June 1, the state has recorded a total of 822.2 mm of rainfall, which is an 11 percent deficit compared to the normal 920.8 mm for that period. #AsiaRisk #ExtremeWeatherEvents #India Follow us for daily updates on risk and operations in Asia! https://lnkd.in/gnZcY3X9

Monsoon Weakens in Jharkhand, Full Coverage Expected by June 30 https://ift.tt/oAn8wtT Rainfall deficit reaches 66% as southwest monsoon slowly advances across the state East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan districts await monsoon arrival amid rising temperatures. RANCHI – Jharkhand is experiencing a weakened monsoon, with full coverage expected by the end of June. Dr. Abhishek Anand of the Ranchi Meteorological Center reports that the southwest monsoon is advancing through Chaibasa, Pakur, and Sahebganj towards Bihar. "Regions yet to receive monsoon rains should see its arrival by June 30," Dr. Anand stated. This timeline includes East Singhbhum and Saraikela-Kharsawan districts, which are still awaiting monsoon onset. A west-east trough extending from northwest Rajasthan to Manipur is currently crossing southern Uttar Pradesh and Jharkhand. Meteorologists anticipate increased monsoon activity from June 30 onwards. Scattered rainfall is expected in some districts during this transitional period. Jharkhand has recorded a significant rainfall deficit so far this season: – Actual rainfall (June 1-26): 51.7 mm – Normal expected rainfall: 149.8 mm – Deviation: -66% Temperature readings on Tuesday showed Saraikela as the hottest at 40.1°C. Jamshedpur recorded a maximum of 38.1°C and a minimum of 26.2°C. Other notable temperatures included: – Ranchi: 34.2°C – Daltonganj: 39.8°C – West Singhbhum: 35.7°C The delayed and weakened monsoon raises concerns about potential impacts on agriculture and water resources in the region. Authorities are monitoring the situation closely and may need to implement water management strategies if the deficit persists. Heavy Rainfall Expected in Jharkhand Due to Low-Pressure System https://lnkd.in/g3p6DwKs IMD issues thunderstorm alert, warns of gusty winds up to 40 km/h Key Points: • Low-pressure system to bring heavy rain to isolated areas in Jharkhand • Thunderstorms and lightning expected in northeastern and southeastern parts • State experiencing 4% rain deficit, raising concerns for kharif crops RANCHI – Jharkhand braces for heavy rainfall as a low-pressure system influences weather patterns across the state, particularly affecting isolated areas. The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued alerts for the region. Thunderstorms with gusty winds up to 40 km/h are anticipated throughout Jharkhand. Moreover, a low-pressure area over the west-central Bay of Bengal is driving this weather system. Satellite imagery confirms a cyclonic circulation extending up to 7.6 km above mean sea level. Meanwhile, local authorities advise residents to stay cautious, especially in flood-prone areas. The state has been experiencing a 4% rain deficit, causing concern among farmers. However, the expected rainfall could alleviate drought conditions in some regions. On the other hand, it poses risks for vulnerable crops in the ongoing kharif season. Farmers express worry about erratic weather patterns impacting their harvests. Furthermore, the downpour may disrupt daily life and transport systems in urban areas. Local administrations are preparing for possible waterlogging and related incidents. The southwest monsoon’s withdrawal line is currently passing through several northern states. This shift in monsoon patterns may influence future weather conditions in Jharkhand. Residents are encouraged to remain vigilant and prepared for potential severe weather.
