EPRI in Europe’s Post

The demand for energy to power data centres is rising in Europe and worldwide, primarily due to the rapid expansion of #AI. For instance, according to the latest figures from the CSO (Central Statistics Office Ireland), data centres now account for 21% of Ireland’s electricity consumption. 💡 EPRI’s newly launched initiative, 𝐃𝐂𝐅𝐥𝐞𝐱, 𝐚𝐢𝐦𝐬 𝐭𝐨 𝐝𝐞𝐦𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐡𝐨𝐰 𝐝𝐚𝐭𝐚 𝐜𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞𝐬 𝐜𝐚𝐧 𝐬𝐮𝐩𝐩𝐨𝐫𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐬𝐭𝐚𝐛𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐳𝐞 𝐭𝐡𝐞 𝐞𝐥𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐜 𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐝 𝐰𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐞 𝐞𝐧𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐢𝐧𝐭𝐞𝐫𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐧𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐞𝐟𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐲. Electricity demand is rising due to the continuing growth of data centers. In response, DCFlex will establish five to ten flexibility hubs, demonstrating innovative data center and power supplier strategies that may help enable operational and deployment flexibility, streamline grid integration, and transition backup power solutions to grid assets. In addition to EPRI, DCFlex’s founding members include Compass Datacenters, Constellation Energy, Duke Energy Corporation, ERCOT, Google, Meta, New York Power Authority, NRG Energy, NVIDIA, Pacific Gas and Electric Company, PJM Interconnection, Portland General Electric, QTS Data Centers, Southern Company, and Vistra Corp.
