EAP supports the reauthorization of Chapter 14 of the Public Utility Code, which sets fair rules for the utility collections process, because it protects the interests of the average utility customer. Have you heard about the Beneficial Ownership Information reporting requirement under the Corporate Transparency Act? It was in effect. Then, it wasn't. Then, it was. And now, once again, it isn't. As of Thursday, Dec. 26, 2024, the United States Court of Appeals for the Fifth Circuit reinstated an injunction halting the required filing of Beneficial Ownership Information for every small business, including farms and ranches, subject to the Corporate Transparency Act. For those of you rushing to complete Beneficial Ownership Information (B.O.I) Reports before the January 1st deadline, note that on December 3, 2024, in the case of Texas Top Cop Shop, Inc., et al. v. Garland, et al., the U.S. District Court for the Eastern District of Texas granted a nationwide preliminary injunction blocking enforcement of the Corporate Transparency Act (CTA). What does that mean? It means that reporting companies (regardless of when they were formed) do not need to comply with the filing requirements, pending further order of the Court.
