Reflecting on a Journey of Purpose, Innovation, and Transformation 🌍💡
As the year comes to a close, it’s a natural time for reflection—a moment to honor the past and embrace the future. I’m excited to share a deeply personal video by my medical school friend, Dr Vikram S. capturing a journey I’ve never shared publicly before.
Next year marks a midpoint in my life:
First 25 years in India that formed my roots and shaped purpose (Dharma).
Last 25 years in the US nurtured my growth and impact (Karma).
I have been extremely fortunate to have multiple career lives- as a clinician and public health scholar, as an informaticist, NIH funded researcher, innovator, “The App Doctor” at Mount Sinai, ecosystem builder NODE.Health as a founder through Rx.Health and as a transformation leader at UC Davis Health over the past four years.
Looking ahead to 2025, I’m thrilled about opening myself to new possibilities that will allow me to make largest impact across multiple organizations and communities, guided by the spirit of Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam, a sanskrit phrase that stands for "The world is one family."
🩺 Most Proud Moment:
During the COVID-19 pandemic in NYC, we built a BOT in just 8 days, reaching 1 million patients through our homegrown app prescribing platform. 55,000 patients monitored their symptoms daily—a task that would have taken 100 nurses over a year through traditional care.
📱 Entrepreneurship Impact:
Developed world's first App Prescribing Platform that led to patent and Rx.Health (Commure Engage), a digital health spinout that touched 30 million lives globally through AI and automation before being acquired last year
🚀 Key Milestones in last 4 years:
Led UC Davis Health to be first health system in California to be digital health most wired level 10 for both ambulatory and inpatient setting. Converted IT to a grow center through Colab innovation and startup incubation, care at home model, digital front door, Digital Davis leadership program and grants, partnership with industry and multiple AI startups, formation of #VALIDAI- collective of more than 50+ Healthcare organizations working together for Gen AI led transformation
🤖 VISION FOR FUTURE: Addressing the Productivity Paradox:
Healthcare technology, unlike other industries, has often reduced productivity instead of enhancing it. It’s time we shift from a "one-to-one care" model to "one-to-many care"—empowered by #GenAI, digital automation, and AI avatars.
I am working on newer models like venture studio in Indo- US corridor so we can align incentives and foster more soulful startups (more on this later). I look forward to hearing your thoughts on how we can reimagine healthcare in the age of #GenAI and create lasting impact so no single clinician, researcher, employee or patient gets left behind.
Wishing you all an impactful 2025, full of freedom and expression.

Startup Melanated Healthcare to scale with Techstars
This is a story about resilience.
A year ago, #Melanated_Healthcare barely missed the cut to be one of the startups invited to take part in Techstars Detroit Powered by J.P. Morgan.
This year, Co-Founder/CEO Lecresha Sewell and her team found out they had been chosen for this year’s cohort back in July, having been fast-tracked to the screening committee.
The program begins this week with two weeks of in-person sessions, before going remote for its duration leading up to a demo day on Dec. 5.
“I was really excited, especially having the opportunity to potentially penetrate other markets outside of Kentucky, and really expand. Having that exposure will be a great opportunity for us to scale,” said Sewell, who added that she had received some advice about Techstars through two of the program’s alumni: Akhil Suresh Nair of Xena Intelligence (New York, 2022) and Stevens Bonhomme of Feedcoyote (Atlanta, 2023).
Founded in 2020 in Louisville, Melanated #Healthcare offers a platform for digital health — as well as a credentialed telemedicine practice that connects Black, indigenous and people of color (#BIPOC), as well as others in underserved communities to health professionals. The company’s app has had more than 16,000 downloads, Sewell said, which launched on both Android and iOS in 2021.
In 2023, the company was named one of our 2023 KY Inno on Fire Awards under the category of “The Disruptors.”
Getting credentialed
When I recently spoke to Sewell about the news, she said her company was in the closing stages of being credentialed in Indiana. That process should be complete by October, allowing for the acceptance of insured patients in the Hoosier State.

Health systems work with startups in a variety of capacities, from investments to program pilots to direct partnerships. This article from Healthcare Brew explores how Northwell Health and Memorial Hermann Health System specifically are partnering with startups to save costs, boost efficiency, and more. Read below.
Alira Health just dropped a game-changer: a $100 million growth debt facility from Symbiotic Capital. This isn’t just another funding milestone; it’s a shot of adrenaline aimed directly at the heart of healthcare’s fragmented ecosystem. Gabriele Brambilla has always been clear on the mission: to humanize healthcare by bridging #data, #technology, and #patientcentered solutions. Now, with a war chest like this, they’re set to accelerate that vision at a pace few can match.
What makes Alira Health tick? It’s the integration. They’re not just consultants or tech providers—they’re architects of a connected healthcare future. With real-world evidence solutions and AI-powered platforms already streamlining #clinicaltrials, their approach is both adaptive and transformative. The global clinical trial market, forecasted to hit $84 billion by 2030, demands innovation that speeds up timelines without cutting corners. Alira isn’t just meeting that challenge—they’re leading it.
Symbiotic Capital’s move here is no coincidence. This is smart money betting on a company that sits at the crossroads of where healthcare needs to go. Alira Health’s ability to blend strategy with execution and their knack for turning data into actionable insights makes them the kind of partner you don’t just invest in—you bet on.
With six global offices and a team of over 800 scientists, clinicians, and strategists, Alira Health is built for scale. This latest infusion of capital will push their integrated solutions further and faster, strengthening the platforms that life sciences companies and patients increasingly rely on.
The question isn’t just what’s next for Alira Health—it’s how far they’ll take the industry with them. In a world desperate for smarter, faster, patient-first healthcare innovation, Alira is positioning itself as the one to watch.

A few weeks ago, I had a really nice conversation with Anastasiya Markvarde about the value and challenges of Women’s Health startups.
🔎 Women’s health has started to attract more and more attention lately. It’s been 10 years since the first apps were launched.
🚨In this industry (and digital health in general), dealing with sensitive data is a daily routine. And we hear about misuse of those data every month now.
✅ Should we raise the level of the standards when talking about data protection? In my opinion, yes!
What’s your opinion? Let me know in the comments below!
📣 PS: Full interview coming out next week!
