The Climate Smart Buildings Alliance (CSBA), a joint project between EllisDon, RBC, and Mattamy Homes, is launching the Responsible Buildings Pact, a cross-industry agreement aimed at increasing the use of low carbon materials in the built environment 🙌 This initiative was unveiled this afternoon at the CAGBC | Canada Green Building Council’s Building Lasting Change conference in Toronto, with over 20 companies committing to the Pact. “Recognizing the business realities everyone faces, the Pact is designed to ensure we are all doing our best to reduce the climate impacts of our industry, and to create more transparency and shared accountability across the value chain.” - David Messer, Director of Climate Smart Buildings Alliance. The Responsible Buildings Pact is an open, voluntary, industry-wide agreement for developers, consultants, contractors, and supporters interested in working together to reduce the embodied carbon of the buildings we create. Companies joining the Pact will commit to remaining educated on lower carbon materials, establishing a process to consistently evaluate whether lower carbon materials or design strategies can be used, and publicly reporting the results of their process and evaluations on an annual basis. 🔰 EPISODE 3: DESIGNING GREEN BUILDINGS-WATER USAGE CHECKLISTS WITH LEED ⏩ This Episode 3 focuses on some important water supply checklists for designing of green buildings . 👍 16 of those checklists are captured here: ⏩ Water supply is a major assessment component for green building ratings. ⏩ Remember, although it doesn't have to be LEED to be GREEN , but again LEED is the most globally accepted and adopted template for assessing sustainable buildings. 😃 👏 The videos are also available on our Youtube Page below: 📹 https://lnkd.in/e9SuKFB5 Thanks for taking this walk with us. USGBC is pleased to align with the National Definition of Zero Emissions Building to support the decarbonization of buildings through #LEEDv5. "As financial institutions, investors, and insurers grapple with climate risks, we see the baseline established by this definition as key to evolving market expectations. USGBC is committed to aligning LEED v5 rating systems by including specific LEED certifications designed to certify projects to the national definition. As markets increasingly demand greater sustainability, we hope and expect that it will be a popular approach for future LEED projects." #USGBCAdvocacy Learn more: https://bit.ly/3MYDky5

The national definition of a net zero building will help us define and characterize for clients what net zero is - across all platforms, regulatory agencies, codes & standards, green building certifications, etc. This standardization is an essential step as we march forward into the energy evolution happening across every sector of the US economy.

🏢 GSA Leads $3.4B Charge to Green Federal Buildings 🌳 The General Services Administration (GSA) is spearheading a monumental $3.4 billion effort to decarbonize federal buildings, representing one of the largest commercial real estate portfolios in the U.S. This ambitious initiative aims to push the GSA’s own portfolio toward net-zero emissions by 2045. By derisking and promoting newer carbon-cutting materials and technologies, the GSA is driving broader market adoption, setting a precedent for the entire building sector. This initiative not only has the potential to significantly reduce emissions from federal buildings but also to drive substantial emissions reductions across the entire building sector, which accounts for about a third of the country’s total emissions. The GSA’s leadership in this effort underscores the critical role that government agencies play in pioneering sustainable practices and fostering innovation in green building technologies. #Sustainability #GreenBuildings #Decarbonization #NetZero #GSALeadership #FederalBuildings #ClimateAction #SustainableDevelopment #RealEstate #EnvironmentalImpact #Governmentcontracting

Retrofit plays a critical role in the rapid collaborative action required to limit ecological decline. Systemic design of built environment decarbonisation not only improves quality of life, health and comfort but offers the opportunity to maximise bio-regeneration in built and natural environments. The Environment Act 2021 fails to address the interdependent factors contributing to the climate crisis. The Climate and Nature Bill seeks to address this by recognising and addressing these interdependencies and it needs public support. Tis private member's bill has been brought by Roz Savage MBE and 107 MPs have committed to attending the second reading. Please check if your MP is supporting it and if not write to them - use the templates and tools on the https://www.zerohour.uk/ campaign website to mobilise your MP. My involvement has been prompted by the extraordinary Croydon Climate Action group who I hope to work closely with in delivering retrofit to #Croydon's 150,000 homes in the coming years. I urge National Retrofit Hub, Croydon Community Energy, Architects Climate Action Network (ACAN), Architects’ Journal, CIAT Greater London Region, RIBA and everyone in my network to share this as widely as possible. Repost, comment and most importantly write to your MP. Thanks #climatechange #retrofit #regenrativedesign #decarbonisation #ukenergy

Now that US publicly listed companies are required to report on their sustainability plans and goals, measuring decarbonization impacts in the areas where we live and work are easier to communicate when we embed energy-efficiency and low-embodied carbon materials and systems in our facilities. Whether for projects here or abroad, utilizing LEED certification in green-infrastructure builds provides a strategic advantage, allowing organizations to meet net-zero commitments, as demonstrated by #LEED Fellow and #GreenLoop co-founder Esteban Martinez with clients in Latin America. For investors and owners, sustainable buildings help future-proof properties by helping de-risk against climate–by baking-in high-performing and efficient systems, while reducing maintenance and operation costs, all the while improving tenants’ well-being. Sustainable buildings provide another advantage–the ability to attract stable tenants, and a guaranteed ROI. #USGBC #energyefficient #embodiedcarbon #sustainablebuildings #resilientcommunities #SEC #climate #disclosures
