🥁 The 'Quarterly Startup Report' is here! While the year started off strong in the first quarter, the second quarter saw a significant decline in investments in Dutch startups compared to the previous quarter. Although the number of investments remained roughly the same, it was primarily the absence of very large rounds of around 100 million euros and higher that made the difference. These rounds are exceptional and difficult to predict in the Netherlands. Compared to the second quarters of previous years, there was also a decline. 🎯 Check it out & let us know your thoughts below! Today the latest Dutch Startup Report was released revealing how much Dutch startups and scaleups raised in Q1 2024. The numbers are impressive, coming in at over €1 BILLION raised this quarter! 🎉 This is the highest amount in raised in a quarter since 2021, though interestingly the number of deals in Q1 was quite a bit lower than last quarter (114 deals) and Q1 2023 (108 deals). The impressive total number this quarter was definitely helped by 3 very large deals, namely Picnic Technologies (€355M), Mews ($110M) and DataSnipper ($100M), which also brought the Netherlands two new unicorns 🦄 congrats! However, if you look at the quarter without these mega deals, Dutch startups still performed well in terms of the number of euros invested. Is this the beginning of a great year? Let's see what Q2 brings! Next week we (KPMG) will also publish the quarterly Venture Pulse report which looks at VC investment on a gloabl scale. Stay tuned to see how the Netherlands performed in a global and european context. 🌍 --- Read the full press release here (dutch): https://lnkd.in/e2qaFS5j The Dutch Startup Report is brought to you by: Dutch Startup Association, Nederlandse Vereniging van Participatiemaatschappijen (NVP), KPMG NL Emerging Giants, Techleap, Invest-NL and Dealroom.co. It's been a remarkable year for the Dutch startup ecosystem as venture capitalists have invested $3.5 billion into Netherlands-based early-stage companies, marking 2024 as Dutch tech's second-best funding year ever, only behind 2021, according to Dealroom data. This year, Dutch startups have raised nearly 50% more cash ($1.1 billion) compared to 2023, showcasing a significant increase. This growth is particularly noteworthy given the relatively subdued funding landscape in broader Europe, which is projected to have its worst year since 2020. The Netherlands stands out as a beacon of success in the current funding climate.
