Health Tech Leader, ex-SVP of Product @ Oscar, Angel Investor, Startup Advisor

I recently wrapped up my time at Oscar after 8 incredible years. Leaving led me to reflect on the progress we've made in digital health in the past 10+ years. I've collected highlights, obstacles, and opportunities as I see them, and now I'm sharing them as a primer for digital health founders and operators, especially those just starting out. https://lnkd.in/eDrb4xQx As for me, I'm taking a long overdue break. Will spend more time with my kids, on creative projects, angel investing, advising startups, and exploring what comes next.

Congrats on your tenure at Oscar and thank you for sharing your thoughts in this great piece. Your stance on risk is perfectly said. My favorite line is “The shift to risk entails a ton of clinical workflow reinvention, and will only succeed if there is a willingness to invest in detailed clinical and operational insights and a commitment at all levels to driving results” Everyone wants to talk Risk and VBC to avoid paying up front costs but there is so much more to it if youre going to do it the right way. There are a lot of moving parts, and they seem to get forgotten.

What a ride. Great reflections and insights for others in the insurtech and healthtech space. I spent lots of time reflecting on my own journey after my time at Oscar and would add; how these products and innovations are shopped, vetted, selected, implemented, and renewed (or not). Especially for the many employer sponsored consumers and their families, there are often huge gaps and barriers to fully executing or optimizing great products and innovations. Some great products fail due to some weak link in this process. Language barriers, poor insurance and/or health literacy, spotty engagement, open enrollment noise, are just a few reasons that come to mind. Given my role in Sales, I am hyper focused on the influence the gatekeepers have in the success of these ambitious solutions. The benefits brokers, HR/benefits team, and other stakeholders must work in synch and not have competing interests. I think that is often the reason for tepid results or adoption. (De-risk or derail) Anyway, best wishes and congratulations on your next chapter. Well done!
