I had an interesting discussion with a client this week regarding hiring new employees in the month of December. We both agreed that most people will tell you that 'December is slow' and 'no one does any hiring till after Australia Day'. However, we both disagreed, and this is why we believe hiring a new employee or starting a new role in December is a great idea - **Benefits to organisations** 🌐 It allows companies to start the new year with a fully staffed team and also helps minimise hiring distractions in the new year. 🌐 It helps getting prepared for upcoming projects kicking off early in the new year to ensure there is a balance between 'BAU' and Projects. 🌐 December hiring can provide a smoother transition with regards to team bonding and culture, as new employees can be part of year-end events, including the workplace Christmas function! 🌐 Less competition in the market to attract talent, due to the fact that many hiring managers are away on holidays or not running a recruitment process. **Benefits to Candidates** 🛄 Starting in December can be a great opportunity to hit the ground running, with fewer distractions and a quieter time in the office 🛄 A more focused onboarding and quick integration with team and culture alignment, also joining in on end of year celebrations and festivities! 🛄 This timing also positions candidates to start the new year already settled in their roles, setting them up for success. 🛄 Less competition in the market, as there are fewer candidates updating their profiles and looking to make a move. Please comment below if you have any other benefits or thoughts to add here. We have been really busy this quarter and keen to hear how you are finding the recruitment process this time of year! I always leave a lot of tabs open in my browser of articles or studies I want to catch up on. This morning I was looking at an open tab of the 80 best places to work for 2024 from the Boston Business Journal. I always like to look at who is being recognized and how/if they are doing things differently in the talent space. This morning, however, I was reflecting a bit more broadly about what truly makes a company a best place to work. The BBJ's definition includes survey scores in categories such as retention, communication, engagement, and team work. While these categories are certainly important, I suspect it starts with more fundamental aspects like trust, transparency, psychological safety, and DEI efforts. You can't overlook the importance of career development and flexibility as well. If you feel you work or have worked for a great work place, what made it great? #culture #engagement #talent

🌟 You’ve got sleek offices in high-end expensive tech parks. Amazing. 🍲 Offering plenty of food and beverage options in the office? Capturing and sharing it on social media to boost employer branding and attracting top talent. Great move! 📢 Since your social media game is strong, let’s talk about transparency in job postings on social media too. If your global counterparts can share salary ranges, why not you? Same company, the same team. What changes? 🔔 Every company has a budget—salaries are aligned with role, responsibility, and location. Telling candidates you’re “unsure of the budget” or waiting to see what they ask, only to make a low offer later, doesn’t reflect well. Not cool. The talent market may be vast, but it’s also tightly connected. People talk—about company culture, hiring experiences, and more. In this way, it’s a small world. Your company brand is at stake. If you’re showcasing your impressive spaces, why not be upfront about pay too? Candidates’ time and effort matter. When you’re fair and open, your #EmployerValueProposition skyrockets—no extra marketing spend is required. Be Fair. I would love to know if there is a single more tangible #EVP quotient that is driving talent. #talentmarketing #employeebranding

What a Year!? 🎞️🔄 Being a recruitment and HR manager at Fractory has taught me a lot. This year, we welcomed several new members to our team. One of the standout moments was when we needed to expand quickly and successfully hired 10 new people with a record time to hire of just 15 days—a significant win for me/us! At the same time, we also faced the tough decision to part ways with some team members for various reasons. While these changes impacted different teams, Fractory’s positive and resilient spirit stayed strong, which is truly inspiring. Adjustments are constant and will undoubtedly continue into next year (it’s all part of the journey! 💪). But having a strong, supportive team to navigate these shifts makes all the difference. One of the most fulfilling parts of my job this year has been my many one-on-one conversations with our employees and managers. Hearing their thoughts and challenges has been incredibly rewarding, and I hope I’ve been able to support them in meaningful ways. Recruitment slowed at times this year, giving me a chance to focus on improving our HR topics. We’ve enhanced our onboarding experience, gathered more valuable insights during offboarding, clarified job roles for everyone (which was much needed and somewhat challenging in startups), navigated the friendly battles between managers and employees, improved many HR insight processes so that more can be accomplished with fewer resources, etc. Recruitment-wise, we improved our kickoff meetings with hiring managers to ensure no details are missed, making hiring go more smoothly. Our job offers are now more transparent, provide new hires with more detailed information about us and the role, and use more metrics for a better overview. Overall, shifting from a reactive to a proactive approach was a key step we took to drive the transformations needed for our growth and future scalability. On a personal note, this year has been both challenging and rewarding. My partner and I took on the big task of building our dream home in Spain, which came with its fair share of stress and tough decisions. I traveled back and forth between Estonia and Spain several times and visited Manchester to connect with the other half of our team. I also went through burnout. With so many big decisions and responsibilities with both, burnout wasn’t surprising—it almost felt like a necessary pause to reflect and reset. All in all, I bounced back even stronger and ended the year with a promotion. This was exciting and bittersweet as we parted ways with a close colleague and manager who had been a great support. As I take on new responsibilities, I’m inspired by the strong spirit and resilience at Fractory and feel proud to be part of such a fantastic team. And about the picture: yes, that’s me next to our founder during a cooking class, looking like I’m helping out, but honestly, I was mainly focused on drinking wine 🤫 Cheers! Life is awesome ❤️

Nothing quite drains your stomach and makes you 'sigh', like when you see a message come through on a group chat, or receive a call to say someone isn't doing their shift, meaning "you know who(!)" is covering it! It gets worse when you look at the month ahead, knowing you can't make any weekend plans or book annual leave.... is that fair?! Knowing that you can rely on your team, and that the Service is safe when you're not in the building.... feels like winning a gold medal! Companies and managers often overlook recruitment, and retention specifically, when their teams are full; and everyone is pulling their weight. BUT!!! This is the time that you go deeper on retention, and ensure your recruitment processes flow smoothly; to avoid being in a position of desperation ever again! Don't sit back and relax! 📢 Managers working in Care...! 🔎 How's your weekend looking?

1 in 8 Australian workers leave their jobs within the first year. Why? The job or organisation did not match with expectations set during the recruitment process. Other common reasons: 👉 Poor first impression with the manager 👉 Unrealistic expectations 👉 Poor onboarding experience The cost? 💸 $20k+ per hire 💸 35 days to productivity How to fix it: ✨ Set clear expectations. Be transparent about the role and challenges. Promoting your EVP is great but don’t sell a dream that doesn’t exist. ✨ Refine your onboarding process. Provide a structured schedule so your new hire knows what to expect. Even better if you send it before day 1. ✨ Understand work styles. Use tools like "ways of working" documents to help align expectations, communication preferences, and work styles within your team (Want a free template? DM me!)

"A mere 8% of employees seek internal opportunities for progression. This is despite more than two thirds of employees believing that companies should seek to help internal talent into new roles within the organisation." Company cultures and structures must change in order for employees to believe they are receiving the support, training and interview opportunities to move forward without moving on to a new organisation. https://lnkd.in/gmNdy9w7 #internalmobility #internalhire #employeeretention
