The concept of innovation as a cornerstone for competitive advantage is well-recognized, with numerous studies linking a nation's GDP to its innovation capabilities. Yet, Ukraine's situation presents a compelling narrative. Despite being classified as a lower-middle-income country, Ukraine's level of innovation notably exceeds that of many upper-middle-income countries. This exceptional performance underscores the presence of a vital asset for rapid national progress: a robust ecosystem of talent and technology, characterized by accessible specialists, high educational standards, and sophisticated technological infrastructure. Examining the historical trajectories of countries like Singapore and Israel, which achieved remarkable development within a relatively short timeframe, reveals a significant difference. These nations lacked Ukraine's current wealth of resources initially and spent years cultivating their educational systems, attracting intellectual capital to build the prosperous societies observed today. This historical context poses a critical question for Ukraine: Which development strategy should be pursued? Emulating Israel's model, with its emphasis on education, entrepreneurship, and innovation, requires Ukraine to embark on a series of deliberate actions. Foremost among these is safeguarding the human capital in Ukraine, ensuring that this invaluable asset can propel Ukraine towards catching up with the world's developed nations. To achieve this, a comprehensive state policy focused on talent retention is imperative, aiming to nurture and harness the nation's innovative potential to its fullest extent. Discover my insights in the latest article for @Epravda. Your thoughts and feedback are invaluable as we navigate this journey together. https://lnkd.in/dZEKU8t6 #Newxel #NewxelTalents

Ukrainian women are driving economic resilience and growth!! In the first half of 2024, the Ukrainian economy has shown remarkable resilience and growth, despite ongoing challenges. A significant factor in this success is the contribution of Ukrainian women across various sectors. From leading innovative IT companies to driving agricultural advancements and infrastructure projects, their efforts have been pivotal. Leadership in IT: Women have been at the forefront of Ukraine’s robust IT sector, which has remained resilient and adaptive during wartime. Agricultural Impact: Female entrepreneurs are making strides in agriculture, ensuring food security and economic stability. Infrastructure Development: Women are playing crucial roles in rebuilding and modernizing Ukraine’s infrastructure, supported by international investments. Their dedication and hard work continue to inspire and drive Ukraine’s path to recovery and growth. Super interesting interview with Kateryna Glazkova, Executive Director at the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs (SUP), which recently opened an office here in Warsaw. Ukrainian women play a significant role in the Ukrainian business community in Poland. As I recently explained to my colleagues during a discussion about Ukrainian investment into Europe, Ukrainian business and investment is here to stay and Ukrainians are integrating into the European economy at a much quicker pace.
In June, the Union of Ukrainian Entrepreneurs (SUP) opened a European office with its headquarters in Warsaw. There is a significant number of Ukrainians in Poland, many of whom are small and medium-sized business owners. A large part of them are women. Tens of thousands of Ukrainian women left their homes at the beginning of the full-scale invasion and now live between Warsaw and Kyiv. When the offer came from the Ukrainian-Polish project sestry.eu, I thought the conversation would mainly be about women's entrepreneurship, but it turned out to be much deeper and touched on very important topics. We discussed the daily challenges Ukrainian entrepreneurs face, how Ukrainian businesses manage not only to survive but also to grow and enter new markets. We also talked about why our Union started working in Europe, the value it brings to Ukrainian companies, and what it's like to be a woman in Ukrainian business. This interview is particularly significant to me because such conversations allow me to convey the voice of Ukrainian business to an international audience. I am very grateful to Irena Tymotievych for this conversation. Today, the Harriman Institute at Columbia University hosted an important virtual event spotlighting Bulgaria's dark history under communism & forced labor camps, like the Belene gulag - which remain under-acknowledged. For more information see: https://belene.camp Event: https://lnkd.in/daj85rat Belene – A Bulgarian Resistance Story. Preserving a Fading Memory 35 Years After the End of Communism "Bulgaria’s Gulags Under a Soviet-aligned communist dictatorship from 1944 to 1989, Bulgaria is often viewed as one of the Soviet Union’s staunchest allies. In reality, the country was a stronghold of forced conformity, with limited true support for communist ideology. To ensure loyalty, the regime established around 80 detention facilities, many euphemistically referred to as “labor and education centers.” In these gulags, individuals were detained without trial for offenses as simple as practicing religion, resisting land collectivization, or even listening to Western music. The Belene camp, notorious for its harsh conditions, stood out for its longevity, operating until two years before the fall of communism in 1989. The scars of this dark period run deep, with nearly 60,000 people passing through the Bulgarian gulags and many more affected indirectly—families, friends, and communities left to carry the burden of this history. A Lesson for the World While resistance movements in Eastern Europe are well-documented, Bulgaria’s story of resistance remains largely untold—both internationally and at home. Thirty-five years after the fall of communism, Bulgaria still struggles to confront its past, and this neglect has allowed distorted historical narratives to take root, further complicated by ongoing disinformation campaigns, despite Bulgaria’s NATO and EU memberships. This discussion will spotlight the work of Sofia Platform, an organization dedicated to preserving these forgotten stories. Over the past decade, it has empowered educators to teach Bulgaria’s communist history, developed teaching materials, and organized youth engagement programs. One of its most significant initiatives has been recording over 180 hours of testimonies from survivors of the Belene camp, now accessible through the digital archive www.belene.camp. This interactive repository allows users to engage directly with survivor testimonies through AI, preserving a crucial chapter of history in the face of fading memory and scarce physical memorials."

🌍 Exploring Greek-Albanian Relations: Insights from a Thought-Provoking Article 🇦🇱🇬🇷 Recently, I came across an article by Kostas Stoupa titled “What we are doing wrong with Albania,” and it struck a deep chord with me. Being born in Greece to Albanian parents, the themes of migration, integration, and cultural coexistence are not just topics of discussion but a lived reality for me. The article highlights how the Albanian community in Greece has become a shining example of successful integration—actively contributing to Greek society, whether through education, work, or even service in the armed forces. It also emphasizes the importance of mutual understanding and cooperation in fostering strong relations between Greece and Albania, particularly in the context of the broader geopolitical dynamics in the Balkans. Stoupa’s balanced perspective resonated with me, especially his point about rejecting divisive ultra-patriotic rhetoric and instead focusing on the shared values and opportunities that come from cultural integration. As someone who embodies a blend of these two identities, I truly believe that strong relations between Greece and Albania benefit not only individuals like myself but also both nations at large. The article is a reminder that immigration and integration are not just political issues—they’re human stories. Stories of resilience, adaptation, and mutual growth. Let’s continue to work towards a future where we celebrate these connections and build bridges, not walls. I’d love to hear your thoughts on this topic! 🤝✨ #GreekAlbanianRelations #Integration #Diversity #CulturalCoexistence #Geopolitics

Recently, the Ukrainian online social-historical and popular science publication Istorychna Pravda celebrated its 14th anniversary. Congratulations on this milestone! We extend our gratitude for your work filled with profound meaning and are pleased to quote Oleksandr Zinchenko, the publication’s founder, who aptly summarizes the essence of the Ukrainian national character in his work. "Nation of Dreamers" is a text that traces the journey of Ukrainians through various historical challenges, including the Holodomor and wars. Through these tragedies, our society developed resilience skills, but also endured the degradation of moral values, corruption, and the devaluation of human life. Yet, despite these hardships, Ukrainians have become "champions of survival." The author emphasizes the importance of dreams and imagination, encouraging Ukrainians to reclaim the ability to dream, broaden their horizons, and re-evaluate the value of freedom. We have become a symbol of the fight for freedom, and even in the darkest times, when totalitarianism attempts to seep into Europe, Ukraine stands as a defender against tyranny. We are proud of our lecturer and invite you to join us at KSPA for an in-depth exploration of history under Oleksandr’s mentorship in the educational course “Hidden Mechanisms of History: The Gravity of the Past,” beginning on November 25. 🖇️ https://lnkd.in/euqbPEkP

An article from popular Ukrainian media - Zaborona Media - describes the routine and big plans of the Dream Workshop NGO at the supported living program. Why do we do what we do? For whom do we work? What do we believe in? I feel proud to lead these changes. Sometimes, it takes a lot of effort and looks easier than it actually is. So soon, I'll write a post on my challenges. But today - enjoy an article about achievements and motivation for this work. https://lnkd.in/eaiTBe5g

Before introducing Media and Information Literacy (MIL) as a separate discipline into the educational program, it is necessary to understand the possible obstacles to its implementation and explore potential solutions. According to Rustam Gulov, a media expert from Tajikistan, there will be several challenges. The foremost among these is a lack of understanding of the importance of media literacy and critical thinking, both among society and at the state level... Finally, our research on Media and Information Literacy is published. Here it is in Russian and soon it will be in Tajik and hopefully in English. https://lnkd.in/e4-i63WF #medialiteracy #Tajikistan #Uzbekistan #CentralAsia #OxusSociety

Digitization is becoming an important tool for the recovery and development of Ukraine's economy, especially in the context of the modern challenges of wartime. Prozorro.prodazhi is the main 💯% state-owned company, in which I have the honor to represent the Supervisory Board as the Chairwoman of the strategy and nomination committees, which already manages state assets in more than 14 areas. So, about the modern trends of technologies that help in attracting funds for the development of states: ✅ Digital profiles ✅ Digital twins able to become effective tools for building the national economy and stimulating foreign investments. Such companies as Prozorro.Sales are already actively moving the digital process, transforming the cultural consciousness of society. Thanks to their services, utility companies, medium and small businesses, and communities get access to the lease and purchase of state-owned objects on a transparent and understandable basis, eliminating corruption schemes. I share my opinion on how exactly digital profiles and digital twins will help in the post-war reconstruction of the country in a thematic article in the Mirror of the Week - Dzerkalo Tyzhnya. https://lnkd.in/erECMQgX
