-The OG of EdTech- We’ve all heard of EdTech startups like Byju's, but there’s another success story that predates the digital revolution—Vivekananda Institute, later renamed Vivekananda English Training Academy (Veta). This company grew from a ₹12 crore business in 1985 to ₹100 crore in 2007. If you were an 80’s or 90’s kid, you probably remember seeing him take English grammar classes on popular TV channels. VETA was a true pioneer in education and technology, long before Facebook and Google Ads took over the marketing world. By 2007, Veta had: - 150 centers across India - Operations in 18 states - 100 Crore in revenue - A marketing spend of approximately ₹20 crore Today: - Over 43+ years of operation - Trained more than 16 lakh students - Continues to offer its courses for people who want to speak English. How Did It All Start? - The brothers wanted to quit regular 9-5 Ganesh Ram, MD tutored students in mathematics and science - Later Ram’s brother V Rajagopalan joins and have started coaching English reading, writing and communication skills - It began spreading out much earlier through distance learning programmes in regional languages I recently had the privilege of meeting Rajagopalan sir at a wedding reception and expressed my gratitude, saying, “நீங்கலாம் அப்போவே TV ல WEBINAR எடுத்த ஆளு சார். Thanks for inspiring so many.” (You were the one giving webinars on TV back then. Thank you for inspiring so many!)
Dharaneetharan G D Mr. Rajagopal sir is an extraordinary person, our first office space from 2 bedroom apartment to proper 2 floor office set up was in his own building at Burkit Rd, T.Nagar. Such a gem of a person to interact and seen the brothers ramp up business working hard in 2005s. I admired him the way he took English classes without students in studio and he use to talk to them as if they were there. He is the pioneer and legand for Virtual Tutoring!!
Great to see such legends after a decade! One thing I wanted to register here is, we need more English communication and business communication trainings being imparted to students from tier2, tier3 regions in India. Is there anyone who does these trainings Pan-India or across TN?? Please let me know.
Dharaneetharan 80's & 90's kids know about Mr. Rajagopalan. I used to watch his classes in TV those days. I admired him the way he took English classes.
I don't remember but my dad might have Dharaneetharan G D
Yes. I know him. From the days of Doordarshan I know him. His program is one of the two shows that my parents compelled me to see. And the other one is news of that day. That too my dad had given me a separate note for taking notes from these shows. Daily I have to report to my dad. How a small simple repetitive task made him so popular! Dharaneetharan G D Bro, Rajagopalan sir is a living example of your words. That's a fresh memory reminder today.
Yeah I do remember ....he used to teach English His simple way of explaining things is a great skill not all can do. Good to see you with him bro Dharaneetharan G D
Haven't heard about it before. This is something outstanding na Dharaneetharan G D Tv la webinar ah 😄
I still remember Sir's teaching. The funny part is, he would occasionally ask, "Am I blocking the board?" and then ask us questions as if we were sitting right in front of him physically. Great picture, thanks for bringing my memories.
Yup, now I remember the face, somewhat my subconscious mind recognize him but now I get it who he was, lol I used to watch his classes ☺...memories bring back memories ....

3dI did some research on his site yesterday, and I am still getting his targeted ads! I'm wondering how much effort the brand is taking to stay relevant.
