The power is striking when plotted in a log-log chart but it is more impressive for its simplicity when it is plotted in a linear chart.

"Pub myths" about Māori have no place in healthcare, but they're all too prevalent if you just scratch the surface. - In healthcare, there's a focus on developing our practice to provide culturally safe care. This goes beyond cultural competency - developing skills from another culture. Although helpful, that knowledge alone is not sufficient to achieve health equity. You have a karakia at the ready? Laminated and stuck to the back of your work lanyard. Great! But this means little when you haven't taken the time to reflect on your own culture, including your beliefs, biases and attitudes towards other cultures. Is this confronting? Challenging? Uncomfortable? It sure is. But it's not about casting blame or feeling guilty, rather understanding how this impacts on others, including perpetuating inequity in healthcare. Have a read through this list of "pub myths" compiled by Kerry Topp. Do any of them make you squirm in your seat? Have you heard yourself think or say any of these things? I guarantee that you're not alone. Now, what are you going to do about it? (To be clear these "pub myths" have no place anywhere, not just healthcare.) #healthcare #healthequity #culturalsafety #culturalcompetency #pharmacy #pharmacist ----- Let's start a conversation. So many non-Māori consider debate the mere practise of trolling every Māori on LinkedIn, demanding they interrogate the pub myths about Maoridom they hold. Debate is not that. Debate is going home to your own communities and asking 'these pub myths we perpetuate - let's assume we're wrong, what world does that create?' and properly, for once, getting to the end of that discussion. That's debate. Go have one!

We loved this response from our stories last week. It reminded us of this game-changing structure in Māori: passive instructions. So, let's talk about them. Swipe to learn how to create one-word instructions using just a verb 🤯 Here's a quick guide to get you started: 1️⃣ Choose the Māori verb you need (e.g., 'kōrero' for 'speak' or 'talk'). 2️⃣ Add the appropriate suffix or ending (we suggest using Te Aka Māori Dictionary for guidance). Which one will you use today?
