However the ICO has just published it's strategic approach to AI: https://lnkd.in/dBbPQkHx This states: "We support the government’s ambition to make sure that artificial intelligence (AI) is adopted in ways that make the UK the smartest, healthiest, safest and happiest place to live and work. We believe that data protection is a crucial part of making this a reality." With AI solutions being deployed across multiple business functions in rapidly evolving organisations, it is essential for leaders to assess the risks posed alongside the opportunities generated. Of the four areas of digital regulation included in our survey of 450 GC's, respondents see the most widespread benefits in AI regulation, with 41% anticipating ‘significant’ and 53% ‘moderate’ opportunities. However, survey respondents also seem to show a certain fear of overregulation of AI. While only 14% see AI regulation as presenting ‘significant’ commercial threats, 66% envision moderate threats. To learn more about the opportunities in AI regulation, see our recent article 'Grasping the opportunity in digital regulation' : https://lnkd.in/e6D8Qqk2 #digihub #digitalregulation #AIAct #AI #cmslaw

Couple days ago I joined an AI Convening that someone aptly christened as AI Emergency Session to point to the urgency of Africa's AI convo and actions! A key focus was on how AI has risks and can impact safety of stakeholders and society. One vital point was on AI Harms - that occur when an entity experiences a harm issue or harm event that can be directly linked to a consequence(s) of the behavior(s) of an AI system. I opined that a working AI Harms Taxonomy would be a useful artefact to build and use for reference as we figure our AI impact and provision governance efforts. Here are some useful harms taxonomies to consider for local adaptations https://lnkd.in/dXnQTyu8 https://lnkd.in/dDcx5WhV #aigovernance
