Is it just me? Or is anyone else finding it refreshing to see solutions taking their time to be developed in #healthcare? One recent example that might be surprising comes from Thrive AI Health who are trying to build a behavioral change assistant based on generative #AI. The ambition was announced in the middle of this year and there were several posts about it. Now a demo seems to have been uncovered that shows the progress. The article below is a nice summary but clearly implies there were higher expectations from the demo. So, they wanted to see the solution released faster? The challenges associated with such a chatbot from security and regulatory requirements are formidable, not even touching yet on the fundamental challenge of helping people change behaviors. So, please take your time. Rather release a product that works than releasing it fast.

"At its core, healthcare is human, and driven by relationships. No amount of AI can ever replace this foundational aspect of our industry" Relationships are at the heart of everything we do. AI can never replace the essential human connection in healthcare. Empathy, emotional support, and understanding individual needs—these are things only humans can offer. AI is an innovative tool that should be leveraged to reduce administrative chores and enhance our ability to provide high-quality care. Highly recommend this article by Blake Madden and his weekly Hospitalogy newsletter. #Healthcare #AI

ThriveAI: The Healthtech Revolution We’ve Been Waiting For—or Just Another Buzzword? Sam Altman and Arianna Huffington have teamed up to launch ThriveAI, an ambitious AI health assistant designed to reshape how we approach wellness. The demo? It’s bare-bones for now. Dive into the details here: https://lnkd.in/dfD_RVhs Here’s what we’re thinking: 🔮 The Vision is Big ThriveAI claims it will revolutionize personal health management—bridging the gap between cutting-edge AI and real-world wellness. The idea of a single platform offering personalized insights and proactive recommendations is exciting. 🛑 But Does It Deliver? The demo raises questions. For something touted as game-changing, it felt... underwhelming. Health AI has to go beyond basic functions—it needs to earn trust by being precise, actionable, and empathetic. Can ThriveAI overcome the industry’s tendency to overpromise and underdeliver? 💡 The Real Opportunity If done right, ThriveAI could be the trailblazer that finally makes AI health assistants mainstream. But here’s the catch: success won’t come from tech alone. It’ll come from partnerships with health systems, airtight data privacy, and—most importantly—building a tool people can’t live without. So, what’s your take? Is ThriveAI poised to lead the healthtech revolution, or is it just another flashy pitch with little substance? We’d love to hear your thoughts in the comments! #HealthTech #AI #ThriveAI #DigitalHealth #Innovation

I highly recommend Blake Madden's latest Hospitalogy newsletter on the misuse of AI in healthcare. AI is great for doing stuff humans are bad at, like analyzing massive data sets. So why waste time trying to shoehorn AI into a role that humans are ideally suited for, like therapy, or health coaching, or primary care, or anything else that's fundamentally human-relationship-based? Yet predictably, that's just what Sam Altman and his tech friends are doing. And they're going to fail. #ethicalhealthcare #hippocraticcapitalism #AI

Thank you to TechTarget News for the interesting interview questions ... How is AI changing the health and wellness industry? Cook: I was on a panel at a University of California, San Francisco conference a month or two ago. One of the themes from that conference was that there's just not enough doctors to provide the needed care. There's a lot of other problems in the healthcare system. But even just from a demand and supply perspective, even if you could get everyone a doctor, there's just not enough of them. The way population dynamics are working, you're going to have a lot more people retiring, which means a lot of doctors will be retiring. The actual working workforce will be shrinking. But the number of people they need to support will be increasing, because retirees are living longer. Therefore, as bad as the doctor shortage might be right now, it will only get worse over the next 20 years. The way out of that problem is probably not manufacturing more doctors. It takes a great amount of time to do that. AI could well be one of the more efficient care models and is almost certainly part of the solution.

#AI is going after your health -- in a good way. OpenAI Startup Fund is partnering with Arianna Huffington's @Thrive Global to AI-icize your health coaching. The newly formed entity, Thrive AI Health (https://lnkd.in/eXd7drMZ), will use generative AI models to advise about your sleep, eating, working out, managing stress, and more. Digital Health coaches are nothing new, and ones that leverage AI are everywhere, but since this one is tied to some big players and helmed by a product leader who was at Fitbit, then Google's Pixel Watch and Wear OS, it has the recipe for success. What I find interesting is that AI tends to hallucinate, not to mention that anytime you ask #ChatGPT for some advice that is medical in nature, it tells you to seek medical attention to ensure proper diagnosis and treatment. So, what will this disclaimer be? Are you ready to listen to your AI? #eti Emerging Technology Innovators, Inc. Sam Evans René Little Ken Levy
