Talent to Thrive: The Future Skills Report for Ireland’s Medtech Sector 2024 – 2028 This very well produced report, commissioned by the Irish Medtech Skillnet and supported by Irish Medtech, offers a comprehensive view of the future skills needed in medtech to secure the sector’s continued growth. It follows a two year research study with input from over 400 people in the Irish Medtech ecosystem and includes international benchmarking with four other key hubs. For IAAE readers the peer sector benchmarking on page 29, manufacturing skills pillar on page 63 showing current and future skills, and the industry-approved enablers on page 103 are all well worth reflecting on. #Medtech

My First Time at JP Morgan Healthcare Week in San Francisco I just got back from JP Morgan Healthcare Week and wanted to share what I learned. While the main JP Morgan event is invite-only, there's a lot happening around it that makes the trip worthwhile. The first thing I noticed was that it's not just one big event - it's many smaller ones happening at the same time. Here are the main satellite conferences going on: Biotech Showcase BIO CSSI RESI Fierce Biotech You'll also find lots of networking events. Big firms like Deloitte and KPMG host evening parties, and there are smaller meetups for specific groups, organized by trade missions of individual countries and vendors. BIO JPM app was great, as it listed all the events with links to registration pages. Most events are set up for investors and biotech companies. If you're a service provider, you'll likely need to sponsor events or pay higher fees to attend. This makes the week especially useful for biotech companies looking for funding. Some helpful tips I picked up: Stay in Chinatown if you want a good deal on hotels - it's just a 20-minute walk to the main events Most meetings happen at two hotels: the Hilton Union Square and Marriott Marquis, about 10 minutes apart The weather was surprisingly sunny for January You'll see lots of self-driving cars on the streets While you'll notice some urban challenges, business travelers generally feel safe Is It Worth Going? If you're in biotech and looking for investors, or if you're a service provider looking for new business, I'd say yes. Since it's early in the year, there's less competition for people's attention from other events. You'll find lots of decision-makers in one place. And a lot of meetings can happen outside of the events, either by scheduling in advance, or just bumping into someone you know in a hotel lobby. I came away thinking this is definitely worth the trip. Whether you're seeking investment or looking to grow your network in biotech, there's value here. Two weeks have passed since the B Corp Cork event on June 13th, and we've been reflecting on its success and impact. The event, co-hosted by ourselves, Otonomee, Climeaction, and B Lab Ireland, served as an exciting platform for innovation in the Irish business community. We are thankful to everyone who attended and helped make our vision of ‘Raising the Collective Ambition in the Room’ a reality. The event was packed with insightful discussion and shared enthusiasm, highlighting the growing momentum of the B Corp movement in Ireland. James McManus spoke passionately about the workings, accomplishments, and significance of B Corps. Marcello Palazzi inspired us to step-up our ambitions and engage with B Corps on a global scale. Numerous companies from various sectors, sizes, and stages of maturity shared their sustainability journeys, reinforcing our shared commitment to positive change. After two weeks of reflection, we can highlight a few key takeaways from the day: • Companies are expanding their definition of stakeholders to include workers, customers, communities, and the environment. • Being a certified B Corp is a marker of good business, showcasing awareness and solutions for societal and business challenges. • It’s not enough to get your own house in order; responsible businesses make a difference by supporting others on their journey. • Purpose-driven and sustainable businesses are setting themselves apart and succeeding commercially and financially. • B Corps take pride in ensuring their products, practices, and profits do no harm and benefit all.
