In an emerging economy, there is always a gap between demand & supply. Not just in terms of quantity and numbers but the quality of skills available too. The supply is in abundance but not relevant to the demand. This is where skilling comes in. The challenge is in rolling out skilling programs for those who need it the most. Typical issues which need to be addressed are: The skilling program has to be designed first, with all stakeholders involved: beneficiary target group, trainers & training institutes, government as facilitators and investors, NGOs and others Course content has to be industry relevant with practicals, internships etc. One has to be able to physically/digitally reach out to the youth of this country. Then they have to be motivated to take up these programs. Once they complete, they have to get employment or some support to run their own small business. This requires setting up an eco-system which can absorb these fresher’s through jobs or entrepreneurship opportunities. Funding: Government, private, NGO etc. Difficult but not impossible. Requires lot of policy support and a will to implement. #skills #employment #education #indiashining #communitydevelopment #Rotary #NGO #jobs #21stCentury
