Ipsos has partnered with Lloyds Banking Group to measure UK adults' 'Essential Digital Skills'. The study conducted on behalf of the Department for Education is reported alongside the Consumer Digital Index, which examines the UK's digital and financial aspects of life. 📈Important findings: •The Foundation Level, representing the fundamental tasks of getting online, has increased to 84% of UK adults from 80% in 2022. However, setting up a Wi-Fi connection remains challenging for around 4.7 million (9%) UK adults. •In 2023, 23% of UK adults had to search for a cheaper internet or mobile data plan to afford their other bills, compared to the 14% who expected to do so. • 82% of the UK labor force possesses Essential Digital Skills for Work (also known as Work EDS) - a four-percentage-point increase from 2022. 👉Download the report to find out more: https://lnkd.in/eEr8vVfk #EssentialDigitalSkills #ConsumerDigitalIndex

Have you considered the future digital needs of your business? Succession planning is so important. Are you protecting the future of your business?
❓Has workforce digital skills growth stagnated? The latest data suggests so. Today, Lloyds Banking Group revealed that c.21 million (52%) working-age adults cannot perform all 20 work tasks outlined in the Essential Digital Skills Framework. This figure has barely changed from c.21.7 million in 2023, indicating that Essential Digital Skills growth has stagnated despite the rapid advancement of workplace technology like AI. The persistence of this skills gap is concerning. A workforce equipped with the necessary digital capabilities and confidence is crucial not only for today but also to adapt to our evolving digital future. Economic growth, industry productivity, and personal prosperity will all benefit if everyone has the opportunity to develop the skills deemed essential by both government and industry. The 2024 Consumer Digital Index from Lloyds Banking Group sets out the stark reality of the digital skills gap today. Only 48% of the UK labour force are able to perform all 20 work tasks. A looming crisis. That’s c.21 million people lacking at least some of the digital basics, like setting privacy settings, checking a payslip online, or using digital tools to improve productivity. Worryingly, over two million people (6%), are unable to perform ANY of the essential work tasks. This gap has persisted in the shadows, but as AI adoption accelerates, so does the risk of major workforce disruption. Technology is marching on, but people aren’t keeping up. Skills growth has stagnated, and a gap of this size poses a significant challenge to business and the economy. We must raise the floor on basic digital capability and confidence. Everyone in the UK workforce, whether paid or voluntary, needs support to build the essential digital skills to prosper in work now and in the future. Our society and economy cannot digitally transform without a digitally confident and capable workforce. That’s why FutureDotNow is calling for a Great Digital Catch Up and over 100 companies have already signed the Workforce Digital Skills Charter and are committing to take action, but we need many more.
