CASA Debuts Its Learning Paper Series with "Adapting Agriculture Programmes to Address Climate Change: A Case Study from the CASA Programme" This paper draws on examples and experiences from the four countries in which CASA Component A (Market Systems Development) works in specific value chains and from the CASA Technical Assistance Facility’s partnerships with agribusinesses in 11 countries. In short, the paper addresses the question: “How can a programme successfully re-orient itself towards addressing climate change strategically and programmatically?” In operation since 2019, CASA became 100% funded through UK International Climate Finance in 2022. Thus, climate became a core programme goal, rather than one of three crosscutting themes, needing a fundamental change to the way CASA functions. This Learning Paper reviews the process that CASA has undertaken to refocus on mainstreaming and delivering climate aims. It presents evidence-based recommendations for policy and programme professionals, including FCDO and other donor and practitioner audiences, to support an integral focus on climate change in existing and new agricultural development programmes and investments. This post calls for scientists to help overcome barriers to “climate action,” while omitting action being taken. AI says: 1. United States: The U.S. is set to invest over $500 billion over the next decade through various legislative acts, including the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, the CHIPS and Science Act, and the Inflation Reduction Act. 2. European Union: The EU has pledged around €1 trillion ($1.1 trillion) from its 2021-2027 budget and recovery plan to support the European Green Deal, which aims to make Europe climate-neutral by 2050. This includes funding for renewable energy, sustainable agriculture, and other climate-friendly initiatives . 3. Global Goals: Internationally, developed countries had committed to mobilizing $100 billion annually by 2020 to support climate actions in developing nations, although this goal has been extended to 2025.” The truth is USA is flat and EU has reduced emissions since 1970, while population and manufacturing increased. That’s so much ACTION Chat is unable to total it up: “Since 1970, both the USA and the EU have made significant strides in reducing greenhouse gas emissions.” Sadly, Chat found a paltry $29 billion spent fighting malnutrition.
