Serving as a Committee Assistant was an amazing way to understand the inner workings of the Oregon Legislature and serve in a nonpartisan capacity. Highly recommend for college students, recently graduated, or anyone ready to try something new! My hospitality background equipped me with the skills to be successful in this role. You don’t have to have a degree in political science to thrive as a Committee Assistant. It’s the intangible skills that sets a person apart from the rest. Don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any questions about the Committee Assistant role. I served during the pandemic so it’s changed a bit since everything has resumed to normal, but I can give insight into job description. Nonpartisan positions in state legislatures play an important role in increasing transparency and accountability in the legislative process. Hiring the best means a better functioning legislative branch.
Come serve Oregon’s legislative branch as a nonpartisan administrative professional! Session Committee Assistants work closely with analysts and regularly interact with members of the public, stakeholders, and elected officials to facilitate the committee process. These limited duration positions provide administrative support to committees staffed by the Legislative Fiscal Office (LFO), Legislative Revenue Office (LRO), or Legislative Policy and Research Office (LPRO). The article "It’s time to think long term in public affairs" presents a compelling case for shifting the focus from short-term political tactics to long-term strategic planning in the UK’s public affairs landscape. With the Labour government now in a position to prioritise meaningful policy development, the piece emphasises the importance of constructive engagement and relationship building, moving away from reactive approaches driven by constant electoral pressures. By advocating for reputation management and sustainable network development, it highlights how this long-term perspective can enhance organisational resilience and effectiveness in navigating future challenges. The article provides a good and informative read, highlighting the importance of long-term strategic planning in public affairs amidst the shifting political landscape in the UK.
My latest piece for Chartered Institute of Public Relations suggesting the 2025 is the time to think long term in public affairs. #publicaffairs #governmentaffairs #governmentrelations
