Addressing the US Maternal Health Crisis using Digital Health Technologies 1Liebert, J., 2Arnaert, A., & 2Debe, Z. 1Private Practice Psychiatry, Arizona, USA 2McGill University, Ingram School of Nursing, Canada Universal Health Care is both a need and politically obfuscated crisis in the USA; however, we are questioning whether comparing the needs and politics of health care in this country to other countries with universal health care, such as Canada and England, is beneficial. Our needs and politics are so different and complex compared to all other nations that we need to assess them differently in a disciplined and objective way in order to propose solutions that are evidence-based and beneficial to all. Either “Medicare for all” or the “one-payer system” may work well in other nations, but neither will likely work in the US. Incarceration is over a million in USA with excessively concentrated populations, as we are finding out the hard way thanks to Covid-19, but what about rural and inner city populations lacking access to healthcare due to geographic remoteness or socioeconomic barriers respectively? Hundreds are shot every week in downtown Chicago; the cost of their care is totally atypical for Americans, unless deployed to high risk combat zones that where casualties have currently been reduced worldwide for our military. One must ask, therefore, when considering universal healthcare whether it is politically practical to spread the costs of Chicago’s gun violence – mostly gang warfare – to communities where uninsured or underinsured patients are few to none – i.e. Bellevue, Washington or Scottsdale, Arizona where residents have access to high quality jobs or are financially secure in retirement? Once an excessively costly solution to such a complex geographic and socioeconomic diverse landscape, the healthcare technology costs have plummeted to the point where nearly anyone, anywhere can FaceTime any doctor anywhere and anytime. Patients with known risk factors and evolving disease processes can be monitored remotely regardless of where they are. Ironically, Covid-19 has forced nearly all practicing physicians to adopt the use of digital health for patients unable to present in hospitals or clinics. Conn (2013) found that telepsychiatry, for example, can save hospitals an estimated $1,000 per patient and can reduce readmissions by up to 62%. Not all medical specialties or allied health professions have been studied for such “service optimization” – or highest quality care at lowest cost – but likely digital health applications can reduce costs and improve clinical outcomes in all healthcare disciplines. In the post-Covid world, we will likely look back and see how the ingenuity of American medicine has proven just that in order to keep at risk patients at home.

A Dream Fulfilled: Master of Science in Entrepreneurship! I am incredibly excited to share a significant milestone in my journey: I have officially graduated with a Master’s in Entrepreneurship! 🎓✨ This achievement represents not only the completion of an academic chapter but also a transformative period of growth, self-discovery, and resilience. I’ve learned that entrepreneurship is much more than starting a business, it’s about seeing opportunities where others see challenges, embracing risk with confidence, and striving to make a meaningful impact. Every challenge I faced during this program (like rewriting two full papers just days before deadlines… lesson learned: always triple-check your submission guidelines! 😅) taught me the value of persistence, collaboration, and innovation. These moments tested my determination, but they also taught me to laugh, learn, and keep moving forward. To my professors and coursemates, especially those in business and data analytics (Python and R were out to test my sanity 😅), thank you for inspiring me to think bigger, push boundaries, and explore new perspectives. To my family and friends: Your unwavering support has been my greatest strength, I couldn’t have done this without you. Above all, I give glory to God, my Father, the giver of knowledge and wisdom. Abba, I will worship You forever. 🙏 As I embark on this next chapter, I’m excited to channel the skills and knowledge I’ve gained into building innovative solutions, exploring opportunities, taking bold steps, making meaningful mistakes, and embracing the unknown with confidence. Here’s to new beginnings, bold ideas, and a future filled with possibilities! Congratulations to me, OLUWAFEYISAYOMI! 🥳 #Graduation #Entrepreneurship #NexfordUniversity #MastersDegree #Innovation #Gratitude

Ever wondered how the timing and type of learning experiences can ignite entrepreneurial passion? 🚀 💥 In a recent study published in the Journal of Business Research, Jonas Gabrielsson, Nataliya Galan, and I explore how direct and vicarious learning experiences foster high entrepreneurial passion among graduates from venture creation programs. Using fuzzy-set qualitative comparative analysis (fsQCA), we identified conditions common among graduates with different learning pathways. Our research underscores the importance of timing, showing how experiences before, during and after education contribute to high entrepreneurial passion. Moreover, it shows that both types of learning experiences are interdependent in developing high passion. The study offers actionable insights for educators aiming to design more effective entrepreneurship programs and for aspiring entrepreneurs looking to maximize their passion through targeted learning experiences. For researchers, it offers new insights into the emotional drivers of entrepreneurial passion and the role of experiential learning over time. 🚀 Beyond Entrepreneurship Education: How Teaching Models Shape Future Founders 🎓 What if entrepreneurship education isn’t the only factor influencing long-term venture creation? Our latest research challenges the conventional wisdom by revealing that competence-based teaching models have a significant impact on graduates’ ability to start new ventures—regardless of their field of study. Our research (w/ Kasper Merling Arendt, Vibeke Myrup Jensen, Beatrice Rangvid at VIVE – Det Nationale Forsknings- og Analysecenter for Velfærd, Trine Bille) traced >5000 business school students for 5 years after their graduation, and the results have just been published in International Journal of Entrepreneurial Behavior & Research (Open access link in comments). Key Findings: 📌 Teaching models that emphasize real-world competencies boost startup rates—not just for entrepreneurship students, but across all business disciplines. 📌 This effect persists long after graduation, shaping entrepreneurial careers for years. 📌 Rethinking higher education pedagogy could unlock new pathways for aspiring founders—without requiring them to enroll in formal entrepreneurship programs. Why It Matters: For educators, policymakers, and researchers, these findings suggest a broader approach to fostering entrepreneurship. Instead of limiting startup support to dedicated entrepreneurship programs, we should also focus on how we teach across all business disciplines. Whether you're an educator designing curricula or a student considering your future path—it's not just what you study, but how you learn that shapes your entrepreneurial journey. #Entrepreneurship #HigherEducation #Innovation #Startups #FutureOfWork
