Last year, over 70 countries participated, and in 2024, we’re looking to expand to over 100 countries for the upcoming State of Digital Health Report. This is your chance to contribute to a global initiative that supports countries in assessing and enhancing their digital health maturity. Why engage with the GDHM? 📊 Track and Elevate: The GDHM equips countries with the tools to establish a baseline, track year-over-year progress, and elevate their digital health maturity. 🔎 Focus and Strategize: Policymakers can use the GDHM to strategically pinpoint investment priorities that will deliver the biggest impact in transforming digital health. 📣 Advocate for Change: With insights from the GDHM, Ministries of Health are empowered to secure the partnerships and resources they need to drive digital health transformation. The Global Digital Health Monitor (GDHM) is an interactive web-based resource that aims to track, monitor, and assess the enabling environment for digital health throughout the world. But what can we learn from country case studies? #Zambia underwent the GDHM assessments in 2021 and 2023, revealing overall stability in #digitalhealth maturity across most categories. The GDHM served as a pivotal benchmark, providing a systematic evaluation of their digital health maturity. This evaluation became the foundation for the development of their national digital health strategy spanning from 2022 to 2026. A key takeaway from the GDHM process emphasized the imperative of health #workforce development in the realm of digital health, encompassing frontline health workers, health systems managers, and IT professionals. Additionally, the assessment shed light on the need for the integration of digital health into broader government initiatives. I agree with Health Informatics New Zealand (HiNZ) that this is a disappointing move. I have no doubt that Health New Zealand has challenges with its structure and funding, and that all the options would come with a downside (I'm also surprised that there's no place for a People lead). But technology is critical for any organisation, and is only going to more important in the future. It's infrastructure but much more than that - it shapes how large numbers of people work and deliver services, it's privacy, data sovereignty, organisational culture and much more. And it's a strategy function, or at least should be. Having people who understand technology, and what it can (and can't) do at the leadership table is essential.
