While we are always looking for innovative ways to reduce carbon footprints, Octopus Energy group has come up with an innovative, if not unusual method of renewables storage - free electricity. The plan being trialled is in response to so-called curtailment, when the wind and solar produces more energy that can be loaded onto the grid. This can lead to renewable energy production being switched off, at a cost to the consumer of an estimated £800m during 2020-21. 🌬️💨 Did you know that wind power in Ireland generated more energy than the grid could handle for 11% of the year? Despite this, 8 power stations continued to generate energy. But, Eirgrid is taking action to make more space for renewable energy sources. The company is reducing the number of power stations to 7, allowing for more wind power. This initiative will help Eirgrid to make more room for renewable energy sources. Learn more about this initiative and the SNSP 75% cap on renewable energy generation from this article: https://lnkd.in/eCfETATa #renewableenergy #windpower #sustainability

Many seem to think we'll be on oil and gas forever, but renewable energy is fast proving how it can power our nation. Just take this latest statistic: renewable sources like wind, hydro and solar trumped gas stations as the top electricity provider during winter 2023-2024. The UK's impressive winter showing from renewables underscores the potential for a clean and secure energy future. Let's build on this momentum: https://bit.ly/4a9rzyD #Renewables #Offshore #Sustainability #Solar

International Energy Agency (IEA)'s Renewables 2024 report came out today and in it there is a sobering reminder: even as renewable energy capacity grows, the challenges of grid integration and flexibility remain significant. Countries like Chile, Ireland, and the UK have seen impressive growth in wind and solar PV recently, but they've also faced a concerning rise in curtailment (5–15%). This is a direct result of the grid's inability to absorb all the energy generated. AKA grid investments and system integration measures are not keeping pace with deployment. Renewable capacity and grid investment need to grow at the same pace, otherwise the former can't reach its potential. #renewableenergy #curtailment #energytransition #sustainability

Renewable electricity generation has hit a new high! In Q2 2024, renewables accounted for 51.6% of total electricity generation—a 9.9% increase over the previous year, marking the third consecutive quarter that renewables have surpassed 50%. Wind power led the charge, generating 17 TWh, a 24% year-over-year increase, and now officially outpacing gas as the largest single energy source. At PSE2 Consulting, we see these trends as a clear signal: the energy sector is moving faster than ever toward a low-carbon future. Our team is dedicated to providing data-driven strategies and innovative solutions for businesses looking to adapt to and benefit from this shift. From optimising renewable energy integration to helping companies meet regulatory demands and sustainability goals, we support the transformation toward a greener, more resilient grid. Take a look at the services we provide here: Services | PSE 2 Consulting Let’s work together to shape a sustainable future—one where renewables lead the way!
