Mega-rounds have made a comeback in the European tech scene. In the first quarter of 2024, European startups raised €16.3 billion, with rounds exceeding €100 million accounting for half of this amount! Since 2021, the number of mega-rounds in Europe had been declining, but if the current pace of investment continues, 2024 could set new records. However, VCs have shifted from focusing on the quantity of deals to their quality. There has been a decrease in the number of smaller rounds, and the median deal size has increased by 40-60%. Five cleantech startups each received €100 million, and notably, the well-known French company Mistral secured nearly €400 million. In total, there were 18 deals exceeding €100 million.

Swiss pre-seed fund Founderful has raised €133 million for its second fund, despite challenges in the European venture capital market. The fund has already invested in 15 early-stage companies, supporting innovations like Chiral Nano’s new silicon chips and Eigthinks’ improvements to lithium-ion batteries. Founderful’s first fund, which was €85.5 million, supported 40 startups. These companies have created over 1,100 jobs and raised more than €428 million in follow-up funding from top venture firms.
