Choosing courage over comfort means stepping into the arena, knowing full well that failure may be part of the process. In both leadership and Industrial-Organizational Psychology, vulnerability is often misunderstood, but it is key to creating spaces where people can learn, innovate, and thrive. We often resist vulnerability, but when we try to avoid discomfort, we also numb joy and fulfillment. Our role as leaders—especially when guiding cross-generational teams—is to model authenticity, encourage growth, and demonstrate that struggle is part of success. Being in the arena means showing up fully, embracing imperfection, and building resilient workplaces where failure is viewed as an opportunity to grow. The next generation is watching, and our example will shape their approach to courage and leadership.
