The European Space Agency - ESA’s 𝐁𝐮𝐬𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐬𝐬 𝐈𝐧𝐜𝐮𝐛𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐂𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐞 (𝐄𝐒𝐀 𝐁𝐈𝐂) in Noordwijk supported the creation and growth of MetaSensing. ⁣ ⁣ Over 16 years ago, Adriano Meta embarked on his entrepreneurial journey by joining ESA Business Incubation Centre Noordwijk, where he laid the groundwork for his company. With ESA BIC’s support, MetaSensing has expanded across Europe and Asia, 𝐬𝐞𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐬𝐢𝐠𝐧𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐧𝐭 𝐜𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐭𝐬 with governments and space agencies.⁣ ⁣ ESA’s continued support through 𝐚𝐝𝐝𝐢𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐟𝐮𝐧𝐝𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐫𝐚𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐬 and 𝐜𝐨𝐥𝐥𝐚𝐛𝐨𝐫𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐯𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐣𝐞𝐜𝐭𝐬, such as airborne campaigns and satellite simulations, has been instrumental in MetaSensing’s success. Adriano credits the nurturing environment of ESA BIC Noordwijk for fostering both his technological innovations and business acumen.⁣ ⁣ Today, MetaSensing excels in 𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐭𝐡𝐞𝐭𝐢𝐜 𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐞 𝐫𝐚𝐝𝐚𝐫 (𝐒𝐀𝐑) technology, producing high-quality images regardless of weather conditions. 🏢 European Space Agency - ESA visited our facilities in Santander recently to witness the 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁𝗼𝗿𝘆 𝗔𝗰𝗰𝗲𝗽𝘁𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗧𝗲𝘀𝘁𝘀 (𝗙𝗔𝗧) of the 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱-𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 prototype for the H2020 project, which yielded satisfactory results.   🛰️ This 𝗺𝗶𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗶𝘀 𝗰𝗿𝘂𝗰𝗶𝗮𝗹 for moving onto the next step, which involves the 𝗶𝗻𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝘁𝗼𝘁𝘆𝗽𝗲 𝗼𝘂𝘁𝘀𝗶𝗱𝗲 Celestia TTI facilities. The final objective is to live 𝘁𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿 𝗮𝗶𝗿 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗮 𝘀𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗶𝘁𝗲. 🏅 It is important to note that currently, 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗶𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗻𝗹𝘆 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲𝗱-𝗮𝗿𝗿𝗮𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝘁𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗺𝗲𝗲𝘁𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗽𝗿𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗿𝘆 𝗿𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗶𝗿𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝗲𝘁 𝗯𝘆 𝗘𝗦𝗔 for the future generation of ULS antennas.   🔝 Celestia TTI's phased-array design 𝗺𝗮𝘅𝗶𝗺𝗶𝘀𝗲𝘀 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗯𝘆 𝗲𝗹𝗶𝗺𝗶𝗻𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗺𝗼𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗮𝗿𝘁𝘀, such as the current XY positioners, so reducing wear-related failures. The phased-array also provides 𝗶𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗰 𝗿𝗲𝗱𝘂𝗻𝗱𝗮𝗻𝗰𝘆, increasing system availability before failure. Additionally, 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗱𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗱 𝗠𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 & 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗿𝗼𝗹 𝘀𝘆𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗺 𝗲𝗻𝗮𝗯𝗹𝗲𝘀 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝘁𝗼 𝗯𝗲 𝗳𝘂𝗹𝗹𝘆 𝗮𝘂𝘁𝗼𝗺𝗮𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗺𝗼𝗻𝗶𝘁𝗼𝗿𝗲𝗱 in both local and remote modes.   🫶 This is a major milestone and one we couldn’t have reached without the 𝗳𝗮𝗻𝘁𝗮𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗰 𝗲𝗳𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘁𝘀 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗿𝗲 𝘁𝗲𝗮𝗺 – very many thanks to everyone involved.   Funded by the EU. As a continuation of the InCubed activity UKKO - Development and Demonstration of Technologies for Future Earth Observation (EO) Satellites, ReOrbit will perform an in-orbit demonstration as an independent standalone flight opportunity. We will showcase the capabilities developed in the avionics architecture and the software stack in space, namely an end-to-end EO value chain between EO payloads and the end users, as well as satellite to satellite and satellite to ground communication. Customer validation is an important factor of ensuring the commercial viability of the product. The technology ReOrbit has been developing for ESA InCubed Programme has been already confirmed to be purchased by KaleidEO, a subsidiary of SatSure. With this, KaleidEO aims to validate the performance of ReOrbit’s Satellite platform for its needs as an outcome of the IOD phase, focusing on software-first capabilities of the platform, for different aspects such as quality, onboard processing, latency, dataflow, as well as exploring optical data relay as an enabler for EO. By performing this validation in the IOD phase, ReOrbit will establish its products usability to enable the state-of-the-art technologies in the EO domain. ESA has selected Open Cosmos in the UK and Spain as the NanoMagSat mission’s primary contractors. The €34.6 million contract was signed on 27 November at the agency’s Earth Observation Commercialisation Forum in Frankfurt, Germany. The consortium includes COMET-Aerospace, CEA-Léti, the Technical University of Denmark, the University of Oslo in Norway, the Institut de Physique du Globe de Paris, and the Université Paris Cité in France.

Really great to be at #SpaceCommExpoScotland in Glasgow - the largest commercial space conference hosted in Scotland! A lot of Scottish industry interest in our new office opening in Edinburgh. Our permanent presence will enable the Agency to collaborate more closely with Scotland’s thriving space sector, to be more responsive to your needs, while promoting regional skills and job opportunities to deliver increasingly ambitious missions and capabilities. Internal analysis shows the UK’s national space programmes (excluding European Space Agency) allocated 15% of available funding since 2018 to organisations based in Scotland. Daniel Smith, Founding Director of Space Scotland, said: "The space sector in Scotland is growing rapidly towards an ‘end-to-end’ offering that covers Europe-leading small satellite manufacture, orbital spaceflight capabilities and critically, capturing global insights from space data that underpin adjacent sector activity, environmental protection and disaster response. "With this growth comes a wealth of business and employment opportunities to benefit the economy across Scotland and the wider UK. The UK Space Agency’s new office and continued partnership with Space Scotland will help maximise these opportunities, supporting the delivery of the Scottish Space Strategy, whilst further enabling ongoing work around sustainability, skills and the creation of an increasingly diverse workforce."

A Swedish research project is kicking off in 2025 to explore integrating mobile communication and satellite communication in 6G. EROSS SC's year in review!   2024 has been a pivotal year for the project. We'll take a few posts to look back at 2024 and mention the highlights of the year. Let's start with the video we posted in June, to coincinde with a major shift in the project.    At the same time, we celebrated the change from EROSS IOD to EROSS SC.   The project formerly known as EROSS IOD (In-Orbit Demonstrator) became EROSS SC (European Robotic Orbital Support Services – Servicing Component).   🌟 Why the Change?   This new name reflects the evolving scope and ambition of the project. While the initial focus was on in-orbit demonstration, EROSS SC now embodies a broader mission to advance on-orbit servicing capabilities and sustainable space operations.   🔑 What Does EROSS SC Stand For?   EROSS SC represents the next step in pioneering technologies for: • 🚀 Satellite servicing: Repair, refueling, and maintenance in orbit. • ♻️ Sustainability: Extending the life of space assets and reducing debris. • 🤖 Innovation: Cutting-edge robotics and autonomous systems for precise orbital operations.   This rebranding is a testament to our commitment to delivering impactful solutions for the challenges of modern space operations.   💡 What’s Next?   With this renewed identity, we continue to work closely with our consortium partners to push the boundaries of space technology and contribute to a sustainable future for the industry.   Stay tuned for more updates as EROSS SC moves towards achieving its ambitious goals.
