A little over five months ago, I wrote a post about the mission behind Electrifi Ventures (see link in comments), a Climate Tech-focused angel syndicate I’m running alongside GrowthStream, an advisory business in the energy transition space. By sharing my time and knowledge with both seasoned and aspiring investors, I aim to amplify our collective climate impact through angel investing. In 2023, $61.5 million was invested in 16 North Dakota venture-backed companies representing a 100% increase in the number of deals compared to 2022 and a 0.5% decrease in deal value per Pitchbook. While North Dakota ranked fourth in number of venture capital deals and tied for third/fourth in deal value in 2023 when compared to Montana, South Dakota, Nebraska and Wyoming, North Dakota ranked first in growth of venture deals from 2022 to 2023 in the Northern Great Plains. 9fin, a company co-founded by Irishman Steven Hunter, has raised $50m in a new funding round led by Fergal Mullen's Highland Europe. The deal marks Highland's second investment this year after it previously backed a £45m round for Thomas M.'s FINBOURNE Technology

In a harsh winter environment for fund raising and with limited marketing efforts, but thanks to our loyal supporters, we have managed to raise close to our target for our debut fund. Founders' Fund 1 as the name implies, is a further extension of Kamet's successful Founders' Club. It is funded primarily by our core group of 1st gen founders/co-founders with background in Tech, Healthcare and Consumer sectors. To further provide for the growth of this precious network, we managed to onboard some of our younger next gen founders. This is not a straight jacket VC/Growth fund, thus allow me to share our vision here. The fund strategy replicates how a FO would deploy into privates, leveraging on our founders' network and complimenting the excellent work done by our GPs as well as other founder's and corporate VC funds. The strategy is broader than usual, we cover some early stage and will deploy bulk into growth and later stage investments. We focus on co-investments, secondary and will do some directs where we have an edge. Lastly, I like to mention that the future is bright for start-ups, especially in Singapore. I am certain that with the potent concoction of successful entrepreneurs, patient capital and strong operating companies aggregating here, Singapore will likely see more successful homegrown companies in time to come.
