Highlighting the importance and added value of #datastandardization for #publichealthdata!
A recent International Society of Global Health report on navigating data standards in public health found that while #datastandardization offers significant benefits for industry and regulators alike and is a fundamental cornerstone in the field of #publichealth, achieving it has been difficult and slow. Noting that even the term "data standardization" is ambiguous, the report summarizes presentations given during a 2022 conference by the organizations behind the major data standards that play pivotal roles in the harmonization of health data: OHDSI (Observational Health Data Sciences & Informatics)'s #OMOP Common Data Model, LOINC, SNOMED International's #SNOMEDCT, and CDISC. It also discusses the roles of the data integration and knowledge management software firm Information Technology for Translational Medicine and the modular open-source software platform i2b2 tranSMART Foundation. The report concludes that fostering greater understanding and use of these health data standards can significantly enhance data quality, #interoperability, and public health research efficiency.
