On my first day of orientation for Biogen, I knew this was no ordinary place. From the passion of the employees to the thoughtful crafting of the onboarding process, it's been such an enlightening and inspiring few months. But what really sat with me was the actual patient who spoke with us live, to close out our orientation day. She was a proud Puerto Rican woman who shared her story and deep appreciation for the work we do every day--especially our focus on expanding access to our therapeutics and health equity. 🚨🚨🚨 Check out the latest campaign 'Huge Little Moments', that Adam Hallows and I have been working on for Teva. A campaign that turned small, everyday things into symbols of what can be reclaimed with the right medication.   Through 3 poignant films; hero objects, strategically placed in Teva’s offices for staff to discover, were the catalyst for powerful, personal in-country meetings between employees and patients. As the films unfold, each object; a spoon, a guitar, a suitcase, reveals how the employees’ journeys intertwine with the patients’ reigniting the spark to give their all at work each day. By leveraging the power of everyday objects with universal appeal that transcends language, we bridged the gap for Teva’s people across the globe. I ran my first pharma event in February 2004. Twenty years later, what’s really changed? Anything? Actually, quite a bit. That first conference was called "Patient Compliance"—a quaint euphemism for making patients follow orders, doing "what we know is best for them." Somehow this term stuck for many years. Thankfully, such Dalek-like language has fallen out of favour. Today, we’re an actual community, with patients themselves informing, directing, and guiding the more ignorant among us (yes, those of us in pharma) on what truly makes a difference. But let’s not kid ourselves; the shift from that outdated, top-down approach still needs serious attention. Thanks to Emma Sutcliffe, this community is less fragmented than ever. She’s brought ISPEP to life, pulling us together with relentless focus over the past four months. It’s a moment to appreciate what she’s achieved. Competition can drive value—it’s the core of capitalism. But when it comes to patient engagement, competition too often becomes a wall, a barrier. ISPEP challenges that, creating a space where patient engagement doesn’t need to be about competing but about collaborating for real impact.
