It is expected that the company will begin to make staff redundant from the middle of June 2028, with the last workers leaving in December. "Declining demand has resulted in underutilization of our production capacities," a spokesperson for the business said. In 2020, Viatris announced the closure of a plant in Baldoyle with the loss of 440 jobs. Pfizer has announced plans to cut up to 210 jobs in Ireland 💼 As part of a multi-year program aimed at increasing manufacturing efficiency, job cuts will be made across its Grange Castle, Ringaskiddy, and Newbridge sites through 2024 and 2025.  This comes as the company works toward $4B in cost reductions by the end of 2024, following revenue declines post-pandemic. 💉 Pfizer has made headlines with layoffs across the U.K., Switzerland, and multiple U.S. states including California, Connecticut and North Carolina in the past year. Despite the cuts, a spokesperson assured the company’s commitment to investing $1.3 billion in expansions at Grange Castle, a project that's expected to "create a substantial number of new roles" by 2027. I've known this for years. A professor explained it to me back in 2017 with a few simple statistics. The waves of redundancies in Pharma are not about to stop. Yes, the pharmaceutical industry is going through a period of 'transformation', i.e. its in-house R&D is no longer (and will be less and less) profitable. And it is tending to outsource and cut the costs of everything it can in order to maximise its profits and continue the race for patents between the giants of the sector through increasingly costly acquisitions. Yes, but also Because large international groups in all sectors automatically recruit less than medium-sized and small companies, which are the real economic fabric of a country. This simple realisation comes to me from a professor at ESSEC Business School. He cross-referenced Insee data with employment data and was thus able to study economic and job creation trends in a country like France between small, medium and large companies.
