Innovative solutions for sustainable food production. SOLOS, co-founded by Matthäus Kircher, is advancing sustainable agriculture with an innovative aquaponic system. In their 8,000 m² greenhouse in Tramin, floating lettuces are fertilised by fish in a closed-loop system, achieving a 90% reduction in water usage compared to traditional farming methods. This approach is chemical-free and enhances productivity. With the support of our EU Opportunities Team at NOI, Solos identified a suitable European programme to support their growth. Through our Start-up Incubator, they gain access to a broad network, customised support, and opportunities to further develop their concept.

EIC Scaling Club has released new market highlights for the Agri & Food Tech sector! The food systems around the world account for nearly one-third of global GHG emissions and consume significant amounts of natural resources, causing biodiversity loss and negative health impacts. That’s why stakeholders should work together to help scale-ups deploy new practices and technologies to protect and restore agricultural land and secure food supply. Some of the highlights in this report include: ⚪ 12 companies in the Agri & Food Tech sector have collectively raised €164M ⚪ 71 active investors and backing companies have provided funding to these scale-ups ⚪ Average amount raised per company is €14.92M ⚪ The biggest funding (27.7M) has been allocated to Protealis, followed by N2 Applied (26.4M) and AlgaEnergy (23.3M) To view the full highlights report, see the link in the comments! 🌱 Glad to be part of this event where I joined Andy Hall for overseas work in Vietnam as part of the #Aus4Innovation program! We had the chance to exchange valuable insights based on case studies from Australia and Vietnam. I have shared some lessons we learned from the #PestREADI project on how to better understand the gaps in Agri-Innovation Systems through a rapid diagnostic study to help inform the co-design of an information-sharing platform to promote area-wide IPM. Lot of learning from other case studies presented on how they are addressing sustainability challenges through institutional innovation by reorganising networks of actors through farmers’ clubs and similar innovation platforms and how digital tools are helping them exchange information. Often context-specific innovative strategies to deal with similar and complex challenges we are facing in both countries. Identifying what works and elevating these findings to the policy level can be a powerful tool for building resilient, sustainable agricultural innovation systems. https://lnkd.in/dDjhFBak

Where does our food come from? How can we ensure that food production continues in the future? What actions are being taken to strengthen sustainable development? What can be done to improve interaction between rural and urban areas? As part of the #WeMakeTransition project, our project partner organized an agricultural arena in Hämeenkyrö, Finland. According to the organizers, the event confirmed their belief that no "sustainable development issue", especially food, is simple and that everything requires a deeper and broader dialogue with entities at various levels involved in this topic. The agricultural arena has shown that finally, in a quite simple way, it is possible to involve local actors, to have dialogue and mutual understanding, and that sustainable development can only be achieved by getting out of social media debates and our bubbles. We prefer to bravely face different perspectives, better understand the bigger picture and discuss constructively. The arena also demonstrated the incredible value of grassroots expertise in solving sustainability challenges. The agricultural arena has resulted in concrete cooperation and local solution paths in Hämeenkyrö.
