By now it is well known that there is no alternative for sustainable food. Narrowly niche products will be able to hold out longer, but even the most famous Italian brands and consortia, those most popular in the large-scale retail trade, will eventually have to convert to plant-based alternatives. In the medium to long term, there is no other chance of survival. #plantbased #sustainablefood

🧫🥩💰 Cellular agriculture startup secures funding to scale its technology for cultivated meat production. sallea has secured $2.6M in pre-seed funding led by Founderful, with Kost Capital joining the round. This investment will fuel its work in developing edible scaffolds that enable the production of premium cultivated meat and fish cuts, such as steaks and fillets. Founded by an all-female team in 2023, Sallea's technology builds on ETH Zürich research and aims to overcome industry limitations that have so far restricted cultivated meat to unstructured products. Their scaffolds allow for the growth of structured cuts in bioreactors, advancing both quality and affordability. As cellular agriculture evolves toward external sourcing, the company's innovative scaffolds stand to play a pivotal role in promoting sustainable, cruelty-free protein production. Varda - Field Data Exchange, AgriCircle AG, and FoodChain ID/LexAgri Partner Varda, AgriCircle, and FoodChain ID/LexAgri have announced a partnership to integrate fully harmonized global agricultural datasets, including Varda’s Global FieldID (GFID) and FoodChain ID/LexAgri’s unique product IDs. This collaboration aims to equip farmers with tools that reduce administrative burdens, enhance sustainability, and enable data-driven decisions. By bringing together these datasets, the partnership seeks to create a more transparent and reliable agricultural ecosystem. Varda’s GFID will serve as a standardized field identifier, while FoodChain ID/LexAgri will provide unique product identification for simplified traceability and compliance across the supply chain.
