AI might help you 10x your business, but scammers just 100x’d their earnings—$850K from one victim, pretending to be Brad Pitt. A French woman was recently scammed out of $850K by an AI-generated "Brad Pitt." The scammers used lifelike images and messages to convince her to send her life savings. And she’s not alone—AI is making scams more believable and way more profitable.

Scammers target the most vulnerable of us. They prey on the core of what makes us human; at our worst moments: loneliness, sadness, confusion, doubt, anger, greed… Instead of making fun of this suffering human being - show some compassion, lest the scammers get someone that you love.

How was this ever a believable situation? I know there are some amazing scams out there, but this is not one of them. In fact, I don’t even believe the story, despite you being the 20th person who has posted it.

AI? This looks like Microsoft Paint. 😂

Scammers are getting pretty clever with AI. It’s scary to think how easily someone can get taken in by a fake profile, especially if it looks real enough. Folks really need to double-check who they're talking to online. This whole thing shows how important it is to teach people about digital safety. If the average person can’t tell who’s real or fake anymore, we’ve got a problem. There should be more awareness around these kinds of scams.

There is a sunk cost problem. Somewhere along the way, she probably began to have doubts. But the cost of admitting to being scammed and especially in this way made it very difficult to make the corrective step. This happens in business all the time.

Those are really bad photoshop jobs. I was hoping AI could do better. That said, my heart goes out to her. I understand. “Deon Cole” approached me on TikTok. Asked me if was a fan. I’ve gone to Deon’s shows. I know how he speaks. Whoever it was, wasn’t him. “Melinda Gates” approached me on LinkedIn, also wasn’t her. It’s a real problem, unfortunately.

These pics are not AI, they are bodged photoshop at best, probably created on a phone in 2 mins using google and cut and paste some hospital kit. I feel terribly awful for the lady who felt so low as to believe these rough pics to be true, but don’t blame AI for human gullibility. AI if used like this will make it harder to believe and this highlights this, but this isn’t AI ;-)

Scammers always existed even in the analogic era, AI didn’t improve anything here, especially looking at quality of the pics here
