Boris Veldhuijzen van Zanten’s Post

The Next Big Thing is Our Thing We started TNW because we were alwaysinterested in uncovering the next big thing. Or the next small things that changed peoples lives for the better. For 19 years, I’ve watched startups, ideas, and people the platform to grow into something big. I remember visiting Twitter HQ when there were only 7 employees and 4 interns. I remember seeing startups launch on our stages that soon after reached unicorn status. For years we just called that: what’s next. Maybe it is time to expand on that a little bit. The new focus for TNW Conference is simple: we’re here to help the right startups become the next big thing by connecting them with investors, corporates, and governments that can fuel their growth. It’s where quality beats quantity, and connections really count. - Startups get the stage to shine. - Investors get access to opportunities. - Corporates find the partnerships to innovate. …and hopefully the tech ecosystem thrives. We’re not letting go of the classic TNW vibes—we’re just blending them with more business impact. This isn’t just a change for us; it’s a response to a maturing ecosystem. The next big thing? It might be you…

Great! Can I dump my wishlist here? Here are 10 quick things. 1. "Exclusive lounge" only for startups 2. Dedicated stage/track with only successful founders on stage 3. Only interviewers on stage that are also founders 4. Reserved tables in the startup lounge to meet at 5. Replace the startup competition with investor/customer competitions 6. Investor matchmaking filtered on their operational/founding experience 7. Recruiting matchmaking filtered on attendee resumes 8. Spaces for existing startup communities to organize their meetup 9. Curated speed dating for angel investors (or single GP) and startups 10. Dedicated stage/track to turn successful operators into angels

Every year we're told 'startups will get their chance to shine.' In practice, it's just the well-funded scale-ups/sponsor who can buy their way onto the stage. Let's hope this time it's really different ;)

'Startups get the stage to shine, Investors get access to opportunities., Corporates find the partnerships to innovate.' - these phrases could be applied to past events. What's so inherently novel about the current setup? Fewer superficial talks by consultancy firms? 😏

Love this new strategy - and super happy to be working with you to make it a huge success!

I love the focus on connections that truly matter. How do you decide which startups to spotlight at the conference for maximum impact?
