May the 4th be with you: A little fun one for this Saturday. Let’s briefly talk about #AgTech startups going after too much 👇 We’ve all seen it and heck some of us have experienced it. A new slick group says they can go after everyone in Ag with their tech. I’ll give you an example… Not too long ago I met a robotic startup that wanted to get my thoughts and they said they wanted to go after the corn market with sidedressing with their robot. Sure and all but that market is huge and that area of the market is, well, different. Complex, especially with timing and the fertilizer product itself. I steered them away from it as the logistical issue were just too much and the real TAM was tiny. Atleast will be for quite some time. While I could dive deeper into their attempt to think that way I’ll keep it in the surface. More or less, they were trying to slay the dragon with a paper sword. Many dragons at that. For many the illusion of grandeur of possibilities in the large markets in Ag are very appealing, but then it’s really easy to pass up the smaller ones. One thing I suggested is go after a different row crop and not something that needs fertilizer to solve the issue. Sunflowers I said and the problems they have with birds. Go up every say 12 rows (not every one) and play loud sounds with a scarecrow of sorts attached and run it constantly. That market is smaller and more concentrated while all having a similar issue. It’s easier to test and showcase your tech while logistics becomes less of a problem. Plus birds can reek havoc on yield. While that’s one idea, it was the idea on focusing on something more reachable and doable. Many #agtech startups have problems figuring that out before it’s too late or after they’ve spent to much money and need to pivot. What a fantastic start to the Startup Mahakumbh! Today at DPTA09, we had the opportunity to showcase our cutting-edge technology, trizAutoCore - a connected autonomous software stack designed to empower mobile robots with intelligent navigation and decision-making capabilities. Our booth was bustling with activity, as we engaged with a diverse range of stakeholders including investors, government representatives, academicians, students, and fellow innovators/startups. It was truly inspiring to exchange ideas and insights with such a dynamic community. One particularly promising encounter was with a startup specializing in products for elderly mobility. They expressed keen interest in collaborating with trizlabz to integrate autonomous features into their offerings, opening up exciting possibilities for enhancing mobility solutions for seniors. Moreover, the sessions at the Deeptech conference were enlightening, with discussions revolving around crucial topics such as “Research funding models for deep technology advancements” and “Intellectual property protection and technology transfer”.
