A Harvard Business Review article from April 2023 stated that "Generative AI Has an Intellectual Property Problem." After attending the #EuropeanDataProtectionBoard's Stakeholder Event on AI Models, one could argue that Generative AI has a data protection problem. 😊 Regulation scares businesses, but it’s important to remember that we are all data subjects, making the conversation around personal data in AI models an important one. The beauty of the rapid AI advancement is that it presents a unique opportunity: privacy by design can still be integrated into new models from the initial stages of training, minimizing potential data protection issues downstream. I’m glad I had the opportunity to participate and contribute to this consultation, as tackling these challenges early on is like prevention in medicine—better to address the issues before they become problems! #ResponsibleAI #PrivacyByDesign

Super interesting! Redirecting AI: Privacy regulation and the future of artificial intelligence, by Carl Benedikt Frey, Giorgio Presidente, and Pia Andres. "Investigating how the EU AI Act influences both the volume and direction of AI innovation presents a valuable opportunity for future research. What our study shows that it is possible in principle to shape the trajectory of AI development through policy intervention." https://lnkd.in/e4c_z5g4

At this pivitol point in history while so many are stumbling over each other to win the #genai arms race, I could not be more proud that our team at #asu has approached our work centering principled and responsible innovation from day 1. We are raising the bar and leading the way in evaluating #ai models and products for not only accuracy but bias, fairness and a variety of other metrics related to quality and ethics. We center humans for their depth, judgement and insight while leveraging machines for their breadth and scale. The AI Acceleration team launched on July 31, 2023, and we spent the majority of our first all-hands meeting on that day talking about what principled #innovation meant to each of us. We have been doing the real work every single day since. Centering principled and responsible innovation does not mean we have been slow on the innovation front. In October 2023, we launched an in-house cloud and model independent platform that now has 49 generative AI models available in our secure environment where 3rd parties cannot retain or train on our data. We retain ownership of our #data and in today’s currency that translates to our destiny. We are innovating both rapidly and responsibly and holding each other accountable every step of the way. A new benchmark for ethical artificial intelligence. The AI Acceleration team at Arizona State University has released a new framework to vet chatbots for bias, accuracy, fairness and other metrics: https://lnkd.in/gYSw3QDh “It’s a very straightforward way to determine which one is significantly better than the other," Stella Wenxing Liu said. The framework features both an automated and a human evaluation process, showing ASU's commitment to upholding standards of ethical innovation. Elizabeth Reilley Lev Gonick Kyle Bowen Kimberly C.
