🤔 For a long time, we didn't understand what our product actually was, or what our users really wanted... 🤔 Since launching Mob in 2016, we have been creating recipes, which our audience could access for free (here - www.mob.co.uk) Then, in 2022, we decided to launch a D2C digital subscription offering. 📲 As a first port of call, we all sat around and discussed the product. We had tonnes of ideas. Things that people had asked for over the years. We had 8 years of insight and feedback, which we began moulding into an MVP of the product. Throughout the course of the conversations, one sentence kept coming up; "We have to give them something more than just recipes." We thought to ourselves - "We have given them thousands of free recipes for years. We have to give them more to warrant a monthly payment." 💴 So, we built a customisable meal planner, allowing users to create their own meal plans. We created a monthly digital magazine called Pinch, to broaden our editorial offering. Users would be able to build collections of their favourite recipes. Once all of this was created, we launched Mob Premium in March of 2023. Post launch, we began surveying our paying subscriber base. We do a quarterly survey, where we ask a host of questions around what users are enjoying, what they would like to see more of, would they recommend to a friend etc. etc. We also started speaking to people. Colleagues. Friends. Family. 🗣 It was in these surveys, and these conversations, that something interesting started becoming very apparent. 📝 Whenever I spoke to people who had Mob Premium, they would, in the most part, say a variation of this one thing: "I love Mob Premium so much, it has the best recipes" The feedback forms were consistent with this also. When asked why they like Mob Premium, users would say: "It's like the Spotify of recipes" "The recipe selection is incredible" "It is the best thing for inspiration" "You have best chefs on the platform" Our users were happily using, and loving, Mob Premium, but it wasn't for the reasons that we thought they would love it. It wasn't the new snazzy features or the digital magazine. It was the recipes, and the chefs that created them. We always knew people loved Mob recipes. And our Mob chefs. What we didn't know is that people would be happy to pay for them. We didn't know that this was a product in and of itself. It was only through getting something live, and speaking to people, that we could build a much clearer picture of what our users really wanted. It was very, very different to what we first thought. Of course, the product will evolve. But we know the core of it now. Our users want the best, tried and tested recipes. Developed by the most trusted chefs. In a smooth, easy-to-access digital product. I wish I had learned this lesson earlier in my journey at Mob. Ship fast. Test. Learn. Iterate. This is key.

Our MICHELIN Guide success story. Last week, I shared how Mozrest’s journey began in 2021 with four key partners. Let me tell you about the following year—a turning point in our growth story. Chapter 2 — 2022 In 2022, The MICHELIN Guide became one of Mozrest’s most significant partners. Together, we worked to increase the number of bookable restaurants on their app and website. This collaboration opened the door to many partnerships with 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 across the globe, including Eat App, Formitable (now Zenchef), Servme, and many more. By the end of 2022, Mozrest had expanded from 4 partners in the UK to 𝐨𝐯𝐞𝐫 30 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐬𝐨𝐟𝐭𝐰𝐚𝐫𝐞 𝐩𝐫𝐨𝐯𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐫𝐬 𝐢𝐧 45 𝐜𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐢𝐞𝐬. Three major booking channels joined us next, but that’s a story for the next chapter.

I’m the worst person to go out with because I can never decide what to order at restaurants. That’s probably why I stick to a strict routine, it's my way of avoiding constant decision-making and decision fatigue. We all know that feeling, simple tasks, like scrolling through dozens of similar photos to choose one to post, starts off as exciting but quickly spiral into indecision. Too many options don’t just lead to worse outcomes, they often lead to no outcome at all. Research shows that when consumers are confronted with a multitude of choices, they are more likely to defer purchases or abandon them altogether. This not only translates to reduced sales for businesses but also diminishes overall customer satisfaction, particularly in innovative sectors where variety is expected. Why does this happen? Choices are inherently tied to scarcity: we have limited time, attention, and energy. How we allocate these resources impacts our well-being and productivity. When consumers spend excessive time deciding, they have less energy to engage meaningfully with products or services, resulting in missed opportunities. The growing number of streaming services available today each platform offers thousands of movies and series. Yet, how often do we find ourselves scrolling for 20 minutes, unable to settle on a single title? This overwhelming choice can detract us from the enjoyment of the service, potentially driving us away from platforms that should be providing satisfaction and entertainment. So, is choice bad? As customers we may groan at the choices we face when ordering something as simple as coffee, but we still seem to want them. And companies keep offering them. The timing of decisions plays a crucial role. Every buying decision is actually two decisions: 1. Whether or not to buy. In this phase, a larger selection of products can stimulate interest and encourage purchases. When consumers are excited about the variety available, they are more likely to take the plunge and buy. 2. Which specific product to choose: However, once consumers have decided to buy, being faced with too many options can lead to paralysis. If you are finding a streaming service for movies, browsing through hundreds of titles can make you feel optimistic about subscribing. The large selection feels like “With so many movies, I’m bound to find something I love!” So you will choose the service with more options. But after signing up, if you find 500 titles and can’t make a decision, you feel frustrated. The excitement of choice quickly turns into disappointment, and you might end up canceling your subscription or turning to another service. So success is not in the abundance of choices, but in simplifying the path to the right one. Whether it’s through personalized recommendations, or streamlined experiences, businesses that focus on reducing the mental load of decision-making will not only increase satisfaction but retention. #economics #psychology #success

Imagine you're at a restaurant, ordering food. ⏭️ The waiter taking your order represents the API, acting as a messenger between you and the kitchen. ⏭️ Your food order is like a request from you (the user) to the kitchen (the server). ⏭️ The kitchen prepares the food and sends it back through the waiter, just like a server processes data and delivers it via the API. In short, APIs work like waiters, handling requests and delivering responses between users and servers. APIs are everywhere. 🔻 If you’re in marketing, social media scheduling tools use APIs. 🔺 Weather apps also rely on APIs for frequent updates. 🔻 Online purchases use payment gateway APIs like PayPal. 🔺 Travel booking apps are another popular API example. (we have a similar case, view here 👉 https://lnkd.in/gPrg_C3E) --------- Want to create APIs with a skilled team at reasonable costs: https://lnkd.in/gVCqtX2E
