I recently spent time at #ClimateWeekNYC with leaders from across government and industry focused on the climate challenge, energy security and economic development. I was honored to participate in the Clean Energy Superpower Summit, featuring UK Energy Secretary Ed Miliband. Secretary Miliband illustrated his vision to drive economic growth and make the UK a Clean Energy Superpower and we at National Grid are proud to help support that goal. This year, we announced a significant step up in energy infrastructure investment – investing around £60 billion in our energy networks over the next five years. This investment will help unlock economic growth, create thousands of new jobs, and enable the increasingly digital, electrified, and decarbonized economies of the future. We invest heavily in both the UK and the US, and we bring expertise and learnings from each country to the other, for example in offshore transmission and HVDC. #CleanEnergy #Energy

🌍 Decarbonising the Grid: The Race to 2030 ⚡ The Labour Government has made bold promises—setting up initiatives like the National Wealth Fund and GB Energy, and advancing the UK's electricity grid decarbonisation target from 2035 to 2030. But delivering on these commitments is where the real challenge lies. In our latest video with Philip Kent, lead adviser to GCP Infrastructure Investments Ltd, he explores: ✅ How these initiatives can mobilise third-party capital ✅ The critical role of sectors beyond renewables, like hydrogen and carbon capture ✅ The immense challenges of achieving a fully low-carbon electricity grid in just five years Key questions remain: 💡 How do we address intermittency in the grid? 💡 How can we better interconnect with other markets? 💡 What operational changes are needed to handle fluctuating solar and wind availability? 2025 will be pivotal for cementing policy support and mechanisms to accelerate progress. The clock is ticking, and action must happen now. 📽️ Click here to learn more about the outlook for infrastructure: https://lnkd.in/gBjvUERx #RenewableEnergy #InfrastructureInvesting #Decarbonisation #NetZero #CleanEnergy (No information contained here should be construed as providing financial, investment or other professional advice and should not be considered as a recommendation, invitation, or inducement to subscribe for, dispose of or purchase any such securities. From ambition to action, how government can help deliver a cheaper, cleaner and more secure homegrown energy system. Achieving an accelerated clean energy system requires partnership between government, industry, investors, communities and many others. The Government can act quickly to boost investment and create thousands of good jobs across the UK by: 1. Setting out a strategic energy plan to build the technologies we know we need; in the places we know we need them. 2. Speeding up planning and consenting. 3. Being bold on scaling up renewables and energy storage. 4. Rolling-out carbon capture and hydrogen infrastructure in industrial heartlands. 5. Making the UK the easiest place in the world to invest in low-carbon infrastructure. We currently have a £20bn investment plan, but we are ready to go further. We’ve not only got ambition, but we’re also ready to take action. Let’s get on with it. Here’s an insight into what we’re up to…

Money? Not the problem! How industrialization can accelerate the energy transition. 🔋⚡ The energy transition is a generational project that requires significant investment. By 2035, Germany alone needs to invest €1.2 trillion. Fortunately, the funds are available. The real challenge lies in spending this money quickly enough. Regulatory hurdles and approval procedures are part of the issue, but energy technology companies also struggle to produce the necessary infrastructure and technical equipment at scale. Global and European guidelines, such as the Paris Climate Agreement and the European Green Deal, set the direction for the energy transition. National laws also frame the expansion of generation facilities and grid infrastructure. Approval procedures are lengthy, with building a wind farm taking up to six years and grid expansion even longer. Annual investments in German transmission networks have risen significantly and are expected to grow sixfold by 2035. However, the lack of standardization in transmission stations and substations leads to long delivery times. The current individualized, project-driven approach in the industry is insufficient to meet these goals. A statement from Matthieu Hue, our Chief Executive on the UK Government's announcement of the Clean Power Action Plan: “Accelerating the deployment of renewables and the transition to a clean power system will not only enhance energy security, but also bring significant amounts of investment and benefits to communities across the UK. However, progress has been hindered for some time by issues with the planning system and grid. “Today’s announcement of the Clean Power Action Plan is a crucial step towards overcoming these challenges, setting the UK on a path to achieving our net zero ambitions. To deliver the plan successfully will require close collaboration between local and national government, the energy industry and the devolved nations, and we look forward to playing our part as we create a future where clean energy powers our lives." Night Time Industries Association – Update: Decarbonisation & Disruption The government has unveiled its Clean Power 2030 Action Plan — a bold and controversial roadmap to decarbonise 95% of Britain’s electricity grid by 2030. Energy Secretary Ed Miliband is championing the plan, presenting it in Hull with Siemens turbine workers. Here’s what you need to know: 🔋 Big Moves in Clean Energy **Doubling onshore wind (to 27-29 GW) and tripling solar (to 45-47 GW). **Offshore wind increases to 43-50 GW, slightly short of Labour’s original pledge. 🌐 Grid Reforms: **Scrapping the “first-come-first-served” system to prioritise active projects over stalled ones. **New incentives for communities hosting clean energy infrastructure. 💼 Challenges Ahead: **£200bn private sector investment required. **Legal battles expected over grid reforms. 📉 Impact on Bills: While Labour’s campaign promised savings of up to £300 per family, the plan now highlights that actual savings will depend on market factors. This ambitious shift towards state intervention marks a once-in-a-generation moment for energy policy. It’s a high-stakes mission — let’s see if it delivers! #CleanPower2030 #SustainableEnergy #NightTimeEconomy
