With over 10 million people worldwide living with Parkinson’s Disease, we need new therapies. At present there is no disease-modifying treatment and current options are unable to holistically manage symptoms. I'm pleased to say that, together with BlueRock Therapeutics, we are launching a groundbreaking trial to assess the effectiveness of an allogeneic stem cell-based therapy for patients living with moderate Parkinson’s disease. Thanks to our productive discussions with the FDA under the RMAT designation, we’re advancing directly from Phase I to Phase III following encouraging results from our initial trial. The investigational therapy aims to restore lost dopamine-producing neurons, offering hope for improved motor function and quality of life. Together with the medical community and patients, we are committed to bringing new hope to those living with Parkinson’s Disease.

Bayer/Bluerock Kicks Off Phase 3 Clinical Trials for Parkinson's Disease Cell Therapy, what a milestone and great hope for patients! #FlagshipFounded Seres Therapeutics shares update for patients undergoing allogeneic hematopoietic stem cell transplant (allo-HSCT) for the treatment of blood cancers. ⬇️

Today we're thrilled to announce that our lead live biotherapeutic, SER-155, has received Breakthrough Therapy Designation from the FDA for the reduction of blood stream infections in adults undergoing an allogeneic stem cell transplant. This designation ensures communication and guidance from FDA to expedite the development of medicines which are intended to treat serious or life-threatening diseases, and in which preliminary clinical evidence indicates that the drug may demonstrate substantial improvement on a clinically significant endpoint over available therapies. We look forward to working closely with the FDA in the new year to discuss the next SER-155 clinical study, which we believe could be a single registrational study for efficacy. For over a decade the teams at Seres Therapeutics have been pressing forward to advance a novel drug technology that seeks to leverage millions of years of co-evolution between microbial and human cells in the gastrointestinal tract to target the prevention and treatment of diseases. Today we announced another step on that journey with our SER-155 program, that targets reducing blood stream (#BSI) and antimicrobial resistant (#AMR) infections in medically compromised patients, achieving Breakthrough Therapy Designation from the FDA. In-vivo CAR-T therapies move into clinical trials: The use of CAR-T cell therapies is limited by their cost and challenges with the production process, which involves harvesting immune cells from a patient, engineering them outside the body and then re-administering them.  A recent article in Nature Reviews Drug Discovery describes how drug developers are aiming to engineer immune cells directly in the body, in the hope that this could lead to better and cheaper therapies for cancer and autoimmune diseases. A fascinating field of biomedical research with potentially huge impact on haematological and solid tumours, autoimmune diseases and others.
