But let’s be honest, while tech has its merits, it’s not a magic bullet. I’m not here to bash recruitment tech. In fact, I’m a huge fan of it to help enhance efficiency. However, before splurging on the latest tools, it's crucial to ensure you have robust processes in place. Ask Yourself: How are your recruiters finding new clients? What methods are they using to reach out to them? How effective are they at moving clients through the sales process? With these foundations in place, identify which parts of the process need a boost. Ask yourself: What outcomes do you expect from new tech? Can your current tech stack already achieve these outcomes? You might find you're spending unnecessarily. Optimize Before You Invest Many agencies boast impressive tech stacks but underutilize them. Worse still, some tools add no real value. Before investing in new technology, pinpoint the real reasons your recruiters aren’t succeeding: Where are their skill gaps? When was the last time you properly analysed their performance? Are you set up to help them fill the gaps and improve their performance? Remember, technology is a supplement, not a solution. The Lazy Way of SaaS Recruiting: ❌ Hiring Without Really Knowing the Person A lot of people think a quick Zoom chat is enough to get the real picture. It’s not. You’re hiring based on a gut feeling, not the facts. Selling software at scale takes more than a good answer to a few questions. ➡️ Example: You hire a customer success manager because they “seemed nice.” Three months in, churn rates shoot up because they can’t handle tough calls. You’re stuck picking up the pieces. ❌ Relying on Gut Feelings So many decisions are made based on “this feels right.” You hire someone because they were friendly in the interview, not because you’ve actually checked if they fit the role. ➡️ Example: You hire a sales manager who’s got great “leadership vibes,” but now they’re micromanaging the team into burnout. You missed it because you trusted feelings over facts. This isn’t instinct. Its laziness. But, there's a better way… The Authentic Way to Hire ✅ Data-Driven Hiring In SaaS, everything’s about data. So why not use it when hiring? Use psychometric tests, behavioral analysis, and role-specific data to make sure the person you’re hiring is the right fit. This is going to sound ridiculous; I DON’T LIKE RECRUITING. In fact, I despise recruiting. I despise recruiting cold calls that lead to rejection. I despise chasing someone only to find out they played me the whole time to get a better offer elsewhere. I despise providing pricing logins so a recruit can negotiate a better deal with their current employer. I despise being asked to send the company deck via email so that someone can get off the phone with me. I despise forgetting what a recruit said six months ago while trying to be relevant with them today. Guess what? I don’t do any of the above. I do what I LOVE! RELATIONSHIP BUILDING! 1) I love building meaningful relationships. 2) I love working hard to figure out what is valuable to my recruit so that they see me as a person of value. 3) I love having a system that I am confident will keep me in front of my recruit forever while remembering the little details from our prior conversations. 4) I love helping people with high values find a place where those values are aligned. I love having… A MASSIVE RIPPLE EFFECT!! So stop doing what you don’t love and fall back in love with recruiting. 1) Build a better recruiting script. 2) Build a better recruiting sequence. 3) Build a better recruiting system.
