“We live in turbulent times. But regardless of the geopolitical situation, the physics of climate change will remain the same: we must collectively cut emissions to slow down, and ultimately stop, warming. This is a certainty, regardless of who is in power, and whether they choose to ignore or dismiss the climate crisis. The scientific evidence will hold the world and its leaders to account.” #climateemergency
My thoughts pre COP29 on how we need to continually confront world leaders with the evidence on climate change…

*The Road Ahead: Tackling Global Warming Beyond COP29* As COP29 unfolds, the world is facing critical discussions around climate finance and the division of responsibilities between developed and developing nations. The question remains: How can we address the climate crisis effectively when global cooperation is at risk? While negotiations are essential, history has shown that significant progress happens when countries unite, as seen with the Paris Agreement in 2015, where nearly 200 nations committed to limiting global warming to below 2°C. This collective action has driven cleaner energy transitions across the globe, despite ongoing political challenges. While global agreements are important, the real change often happens through local action and corporate accountability. For instance, Denmark's success in wind energy, where it generates over 50% of its energy from renewables, and Finland's sand battery technology, which could revolutionize energy storage, show how investing in innovation leads to sustainable solutions. 70% of global emissions come from just 100 companies, according to the Global Carbon Project, proving that corporate responsibility is key. We need companies to prioritize sustainability and governments to hold them accountable to their climate promises. Finally, the future of our planet lies in fostering deeper global cooperation. The G20 Summit’s 2021 pledge to reduce methane emissions by 30% by 2030 is a clear example of how world leaders can collaborate for a common cause. Unifying efforts—from local action to international agreements—will be pivotal in fighting climate change. As COP29 progresses, let's remember that united we can push for a greener, low-carbon world that ensures a sustainable future for all. https://lnkd.in/gupbZSmW #ClimateAction #COP29 #Sustainability #GreenInnovation #ClimateJustice #RenewableEnergy #GlobalCooperation #EcoLeadership #SustainableFuture #ClimateFinance #CleanTech #GreenBusiness #ParisAgreement

What's at stake at the COP29 climate conference? If the world continues on its current trajectory, the planet is set to heat up by a catastrophic 3.1°C by the end of the century, the UN has warned. This would not only have far-reaching implications for the human and natural worlds but would also likely push the planet beyond certain irreversible tipping points. It's high time for our governments to take responsibility and not leave future generations burdened with our bad choices. https://lnkd.in/eag3k4FN

🌍 Visualising the Climate Crisis: Our RSA Minimate with David Wallace-Wells 🎥 As COP 29 unfolds in Azerbaijan, bringing together world leaders, scientists, and policymakers to confront our most pressing environmental challenges, I’m proud to share a project that aimed to amplify these critical conversations: the RSA Minimate we created with David Wallace-Wells four years ago. David’s work has been instrumental in reframing the climate narrative—not just as a distant challenge, but as a present-day emergency that demands action now. In this Minimate, we distilled his insights into a visually engaging piece that captures both the urgency of the climate crisis and the hope that comes from collective action. Visual storytelling, like this Minimate, has the power to cut through complexity, making the science and stakes of climate change accessible to everyone. At a summit like COP 29, where so many voices converge, ensuring clarity and connection in communication is essential. I hope this animation inspires conversations—not only among decision-makers in Azerbaijan but also within communities, workplaces, and schools worldwide. Climate action starts with understanding, and understanding starts with storytelling. https://lnkd.in/eqaaEzzS Let’s keep the dialogue going. How are you engaging with the discussions at COP 29? What steps are you taking to contribute to a more sustainable future? Let’s share ideas and solutions in the comments below. 👇 #COP29 #ClimateCrisis #VisualThinking #DavidWallaceWells #Sustainability #RSAAnimate

Did you know that half of all global warming isn't caused by CO2 but by climate super pollutants like methane, black carbon and HFCs? you can learn all about it during our webinar on 12/12.
Join us at our webinar to learn why your climate strategy has a major blind spot and what to do about it! 🗓️ Thursday, December 12 at 12:00pm ET/9:00am PT Climate super pollutants -- like methane, black carbon, low-level ozone and nitrous oxide -- are responsible for roughly half of global warming. And they are far more potent than CO2 in the critical near-term. Unfortunately, carbon markets and carbon accounting, used worldwide to drive climate action, have systematically undervalued or completely overlooked these pollutants leaving companies and governments with only half the data they need to make informed decisions. Until now. Join the Global Heat Reduction Initiative’s Executive Director, Kiff Gallagher, and US Leading Climate Scientist, Dr. Drew Shindell, on Thursday, December 12, 2024 at 12:00pm ET for an in-depth discussion on the importance of slashing climate super pollutants and how corporations, NGOs, cities, and institutions can measure and mitigate excess atmospheric heat in the critical next decade. In this 45-minute discussion, you will learn: ✅ About the latest progress on super pollutant science and agreements from COP29 and around the world. ✅Why it’s critical to target super pollutants in your climate action plan, climate mitigation investment portfolio and/ or net zero target setting. ✅ How to reduce business risk, make better mitigation investments, and get credit for the work you’re already doing by measuring and managing all drivers of global warming. For the first time, climate scientists have explicitly said it will be impossible to limit peak warming to 1.5°C. Now the focus should be on taking action, not meaningless platitudes and slogans. https://lnkd.in/gtM6Zfif #1.5c #target #dead #focus #climateaction #climatechange #globalwarming
