I recently had the chance to visit St. Louis (Missouri) for the first time and made a stop to explore Fresh Harvest 365, where CEO Demetrius Bledsoe, MS, MBA, USN-Vet and his team took me on a tour of their impressive smart farming hydroponic site. What struck me most was how they are leveraging technology to rethink agriculture entirely. Their hydroponic system allows nutrient-deprived areas to grow fresh, nutritious produce year-round, with minimal resources. Even more exciting is how technology has made farming truly borderless: their system lets you monitor and manage crops remotely from anywhere in the world, automatically detecting issues and making real-time adjustments. The implications are huge. It’s not just about growing food more efficiently but also democratizing food production. Schools looking to reduce costs, food banks aiming to provide healthier options, and community organizations all stand to benefit from this technology. By enabling local and sustainable food production in areas that might otherwise struggle, they are addressing both food security and economic resilience. This is a true example where technology has the power to make real-world impact. In Fresh Harvest 365’s hands, it’s a force multiplier for sustainability and equity, creating more connected food system that can tackle global challenges like hunger and climate change. Just remarkable! 🙌🏾

World Economic Forum (WEF) | Report calls for inclusive agritech innovations to improve food security ▸ As reported by Tariq Fahaam at the Emirates News Agency - WAM - وكالة أنباء الإمارات - وام, a new WEF report released today highlights the emerging technological solutions and strategies that will shape the global agriculture system and contribute to food security. ▸ #Agritech: Shaping Agriculture in Emerging Economies, Today and Tomorrow, published in collaboration with PwC India, gives a macro-level view of the integration of Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies needed to deliver systemic change in the agriculture sector. It also calls for governments and the private sector to scale solutions and ensure that technology transformation is inclusive. ▸ Technologies – such as augmented reality, artificial intelligence for weather prediction, traceability, smart logistics solutions and the internet of things – are promising solutions that can reduce information gaps and better equip farmers to manage the challenges. These emerging technologies are critical to transforming the agriculture sector to grow an additional 70% of food for 9.1 billion people by 2050. ▸ Globally, challenges such as the impact of climate change, increased frequency of natural disasters and soil degradation are posing significant threats to food production. Addressing these challenges necessitates that every stakeholder in the agriculture sector becomes more knowledgeable to facilitate informed decision-making. ▸ In conclusion the WEF report stated that "agritech services are not only affecting farm operations, they are transforming the agriculture industry and enhancing resilience, agility, efficiency and transparency in the entire ecosystem." ▸ "Technology is simply an enabler, however. It is not a magic wand. It is those involved in agriculture who must empower themselves and take the right decisions by adopting rational methods and making use of the tools of technological innovation."
