Academic Publications, Artificial Intelligence and its Peripheral Effects
In any industrial revolution, it is crucial to consider peripheral effects. Disruptive technologies like steam power, electricity, and the Internet have created new tasks rather than simply making existing ones more efficient. Understanding the peripheral effects of artificial intelligence (AI) in the fourth industrial revolution is equally important. I firmly believe that the resistance of the traditional academic community, such as the editorial boards of scientific journals and university review boards, to change the procedures in scientific publications is misguided and ultimately futile. In the era of AI, the time spent manually compiling a scientific paper is of little value. Instead, it is essential to frame the problem, ask the right questions, and then delegate a significant portion of the work to AI. Banning the use of AI for writing essays and dissertations is pointless. The nature of scientific publications must evolve to become more innovative and productive. This change is inevitable, and many traditional structures will eventually disappear.
