This video is fascinating to me.
Not because of the painstaking clear description by Professor Dawkins on how evolution could cause the human eye to develop through incremental step-wise improvements over millions of years.
But because it was a waste of Dawkins's time, as he realizes 9 minutes into his speech.
The target was a creationist, who clarifies at 9 minutes that he fervently believes that the Earth is only 6000 years old. In the light of that, the rest of Dawkins's explanation becomes pointless.
The lesson I took from this video is that when engaging in debate you should not immediately launch into your arguments to convince.
Instead, first take the time to ensure you fully understand the other person's perspective, axioms, and assumptions.

Imagine one of the most influential political moves of the year happening not on a major news network, but on a video game streaming channel.
Sound absurd?
Think again.
Donald Trump just took his campaign to Kick, a platform known for unfiltered gaming streams, and racked up over half a million live viewers. But the real kicker? The mastermind behind this move was his 18-year-old son, Barron.
This isn't just a quirky moment in political history; it's a glimpse into the future of influence. Traditional media is losing its grip, and digital platforms like YouTube and Kick are the new battlegrounds. Trump’s stream with Adin Ross wasn’t just a broadcast—it was a masterclass in how to leverage digital media to reach a generation that lives online.
If you’re still clinging to old strategies, you’re not just missing the boat—you’re already sinking. In an era where authenticity trumps polish, and real-time engagement beats pre-packaged messaging, this move is a blueprint for how to connect with today’s audiences.

our film "Larry" directed by myself and Takeshi Murata is finally online for all to see in its entirety. Thank you wonderful Vimeo curators Meghan OretskyIna Pira for the staff pick <3. This film took me on quite a wild ride this year from Sundance to Pictoplasma, Annecy and Ottawa, and then will be playing at the New Chitose Airport Festival next month! I had the most incredible time meeting amazing people and having the best time of my life at all these festivals that left me so inspired to keep creating more films, including some that are almost done which I can't wait to screen at some of these fests next year :)
We had a ton of fun experimenting since the end of 2019 with SideFX Software to create these absurd effects on Takeshi's character Larry, so rewarding and cathartic to be able to share it with the world in so many ways this year. <3

When the inevitable lawsuits seeking injunctive relief around arbitrary and capricious scoring (and thus illegal appropriation) of federal grant support, I'll point folks back to this post.
In the end, if we do not hold officials accountable for their corrupt waste, fraud, and abuse, these problems will persist. The fact that many of the poorest, already-marginalized communities are the collateral damage from this ongoing train wreck (i.e., the opportunity costs of *not* receiving broadband continues to accrue every day) is an injustice perpetuated by specific individual decision-makers. A refusal to engage in even basic transparency around these decision-making processes should be a red flag to everyone who wants to see meaningful impact from public infrastructure investments. So yes, I'll continue to "rant" against the ongoing squandering of public funding, and the incompetency of leadership that is harming so many poor, rural, and minority communities. Since the 1990s we've been making the same mistakes again and again (starting interventions, then pulling funding; failure to independently evaluate the efficacy of specific programs and specific grant recipients; a lack of personal accountability for the programs administrators oversee; an accurate needs assessment and benchmarking of progress in ameliorating those needs) -- when we don't follow obvious best practices, we fail in our primary mission to bolster connectivity (and catch up with with rest of the highly industrialized world -- who are systematically outpacing America's laggard progress).

On Connect This! a discussion about the resolution of the Cox lawsuit against Rhode Island over BEAD turns into a discussion about scoring the grants, other potential lawsuits, and a Sascha Meinrath rant bringing in some history of past programs to argue there are big fights coming up. https://lnkd.in/gec5vpJ4
