The Honduran Ministry of Defense acquires two additional H145 helicopters The Ministry of Defense of Honduras has acquired two additional Airbus H145 helicopters, which will be operated by the Honduran Air Force to perform passenger and cargo transport, search and rescue, firefighting, medical evacuation, and other essential missions in the region. This new purchase follows an initial order signed in April 2023 for two H145s that will be delivered before the end of 2024. "The H145 helicopters respond to Honduras' need for modern, multi-purpose helicopters that can be used for the next 30 years. Honduras, due to its location, is frequently affected by hurricanes, natural disasters, and fires. The fact that we will have six H145s available in the coming years will make the population feel safer knowing that their Armed Forces have the most modern helicopters to protect and assist them during these natural disasters," said José Manuel Zelaya, Minister of Defense of Honduras. "We are delighted to take another step forward in our collaboration with Honduras through this vital project and we are proud to know that our H145s will perform essential missions to protect the Honduran people," said Alberto Robles, Head of Airbus Helicopters in Latin America. "With excellent availability and performance, the H145 has proven to be a very versatile platform that adapts perfectly to the climatic and geographic conditions of the region." In addition to the operational advantages and safety features that make the H145 a commercial success around the world, the five-bladed version offers an additional 150kg of useful load and improved comfort for passengers and crews. The H145's excellent performance, especially in hot and high conditions, makes it ideal for performing firefighting missions, with added value provided by its compact fuselage which enables the aircraft to operate and land in confined spaces. In total, there are more than 1,600 H145 family helicopters in service, with more than 7.5 million flight hours. More than 120 are currently flying in Latin America. #Airbus #H145

The Critical Role of Aerial Firefighting During Wildfires When wildfires threaten our precious ecosystems, aerial firefighting becomes our first and last line of defence. At FireXperts, we recognize these airborne heroes who battle blazes from the sky, equipped with precision and unwavering determination. Did you know? A single air tanker can deliver up to 12,000 gallons of fire retardant in one drop – equivalent to the work of hundreds of ground firefighters in difficult terrain. Aerial firefighting fleet combines: • Fixed-wing aircraft for long-range retardant drops • Helicopters for precise water delivery • Coordination aircraft for tactical support This synchronized aerial dance isn't just about dropping water – it's about strategic deployment, weather assessment, and split-second decision-making that can mean the difference between contained fires and catastrophic spread. Join us in saluting these aviation experts who help protect our Cities and natural habitats. Their expertise turns the tide in our most challenging firefighting scenarios. #AerialFirefighting #Wildfires #FireSafety #EmergencyResponse #Aviation #FireXperts #EmergencyServices #Firefighting

Since 2011, Israel's firefighting efforts have been revolutionized by the AT-802A/F Air Tractor, Inc., operated initially by the Israeli Air Force and now by the Israeli Police Aviation Unit. This fleet of fourteen robust AT-802s, stationed strategically at historic airfields like Kedma and Megiddo, plays a pivotal role in combating wildfires both locally and abroad. Formed in response to the tragic Mount Carmel forest fire in 2010, the 249th 'Elad' Aerial Firefighting Squadron was established under the leadership of Lieutenant Colonel Rami. Procured through a landmark USD 20 million contract with Elbit Systems Israel, these aircraft were swiftly integrated into operations, marking a new era in Israeli firefighting capabilities. The AT-802s, equipped to carry 3,100 liters of water or fire retardant, excel in rapid deployment and efficient fire containment, thanks to their powerful engines and quick refill capabilities at specially equipped airfields. They've been pivotal in extinguishing over 500 fires, with notable international deployments including Cyprus, where they aided significantly during the 2016 Troodos mountain wildfire, demonstrating their effectiveness beyond Israeli borders. In recent years, the fleet has faced new challenges, particularly combating wildfires sparked by arsonists, including attacks from airborne incendiary devices launched from Gaza. Despite these challenges, the AT-802s have maintained readiness, responding swiftly to protect communities across Israel. As we gear up for the upcoming fire season, the dedication of our team and the reliability of the AT-802 fleet stand as testament to our commitment to safeguarding lives and landscapes. Join us in commemorating our journey and exploring more about our operations on our blog. In a remarkable display of international cooperation, Brazil has extended a helping hand to Colombia through the deployment of the Modular Airborne Fire Fighting System (MAFFS II). This effort is facilitated by the Força Aérea Brasileira - FAB, using an Embraer KC-390 Millenium aircraft to transport the equipment from Anápolis Air Base to Galeão Air Base. The MAFFS II system, capable of holding over 3,000 gallons of water or fire retardant, was installed on a Fuerza Aeroespacial Colombiana (FAC) Lockheed Martin C-130 Hercules. This system allows for aerial firefighting without compromising the aircraft's performance, proving crucial as Colombia battles wildfires that have consumed over 44,500 acres of forest since November. The Colombian government is also enhancing its firefighting fleet with three Air Tractor, Inc. AT-802 aircraft, repurposed from their usual role in countering illegal agriculture, thanks to efforts by the Policia Nacional de Colombia. Additionally, Peru has contributed a firefighting system, further bolstering the regional response. This initiative highlights the pressing need for robust fire management solutions in the region, underscored by ongoing debates in the Colombian National Congress regarding the readiness of FAC's aircraft fleet.
