🚀 Côte d'Ivoire has launched a new initiative aimed at catalyzing funding for Creative and Cultural entrepreneurs in the country. 🤝The initiative, called Fin Culture, is a partnership between the Ministry of Culture and Francophonie, the Agency for Youth Employment, Orange Bank and Birimian Ventures. You may remember that Birimian and Orange Bank initially joined forces in 2022 to launch a $163,000 pilot debt fund for Creative MSMEs, focused on the fashion and luxury sector. This first fund enabled the financing of 20 creative entrepreneurs, with a default rate of 0%. The available envelope was later multiplied by 5, reaching $813,000. 💰 Now, Birimian and Orange Bank have expanded their partnership again to create Fin Culture. With a budget of $1.5 million provided by the Agency for Youth Employment, Fin Culture aims to finance 100 projects through medium-term revolving loans ranging from $1,600 to $32,500. 👷🏾Birimian will serve as a technical and implementation partner, overseeing the selection, evaluation, and financial structuring of the projects. It will also deliver capacity building programs to the selected creative businesses and entrepreneurs. During the Covid-19 #pandemic, many #companies ran into difficulties. The Confederation made #Covidloans available to avoid bankruptcy. Today, Geneva's SMEs are struggling to repay these loans. Interest rates have been raised from 0% to 1.5% in April 2023, with almost immediate effect, in some cases retroactively. Geneva's #restaurant and #business owners are keen to find payment arrangements, but say they don't know who to turn to – banks, cantons, the federal administration or the federal government? Many of them wrote to the “Tribune de Genève” to express their distress.   As a reminder: in Switzerland, 17 billion in credit were granted to a total of 138,000 companies. Today, 12,000 billion in credit have still not been repaid, meaning that there are 112,000 outstanding #Covid loans throughout Switzerland. In Geneva, less than 30% of the 11,000 companies that have contracted a Covid loan have been able to repay it as of today. In 2023, the number of #bankruptcies in Switzerland soared by 25%.
