Brilliant reading from Azeem Azhar and Nathan Warren in yesterday's piece on the evolution of energy production. We are poised to see energy production become more distributed, with one national grid supplemented (or in some cases replaced) by lots of local ones. The rollout of BESS is the only major obstacle to achieving Labour's goal of decarbonised power by 2030. It's that simple. Growth in renewable capacity is highly visible thanks to the incredibly successful CfD regime. It's just the 'flexibility' part of the equation to optimise renewables that needs addressing. Encouraging to see this piece on National Grid ESO “blaming a range of technical factors” for #batterystorage “being overlooked up to 90 per cent of the time” For over 12 months, we have been requesting ESO to fix these issues.  We wholeheartedly support the concerns levelled by our peers in the article. With ESO demerging from National Grid on 1 October, we are calling for ESO as a Government owned entity, to double down on giving batteries a level playing field, to save consumers money and accelerate the #energytransition.

It is one of the biggest hurdle on a way of fast energy transition in the US, even though the electric grid is essential to the clean energy transition.

Plans for a ‘first ready and needed, first connected’ initiative for projects waiting for National Grid approval is in the works and could help speed some important green projects along.   With the goal for decarbonised power generation in 2030, progress needs to be swift and with the current waiting lists for grid connection being so long, projects that are unlikely to be approved or projects that aren’t ‘ready to go’ are holding up the queue for more urgent projects.   These new plans will group projects together that are essential to the 2030 clean power goal and allow them to move up the queue.   This would allow projects that are raring and ready to go, to connect to the grid and begin generating, much more quickly than in the current system.
