A small group of us formed a company called Motif and came out of stealth today. You can read more about it in the linked articles. I will talk more about the product we are building later, here I want to mention four things about the new company we are building: **- We strive to Listen.** We work closely with early adopter companies we call 'Design Partners'. They have been working with us before we had any code written. **- We strive to be Humble.** We do not know all the answers but ask questions and figure things out. We iterate, test, and try to improve. **- We strive to be Honest and Open.** Building a company in the AEC industry involves long-term relationships and trust. The best way to build trust is to be as honest and open as possible, and to do what you said you were going to do. **- We are in this for the long haul.** This race is a marathon, not a sprint. As Amar wrote in our vision statement "We know that this vision is easier to describe than it is to build. It will take years of sustained effort and multiple, incremental steps. Just as Amazon Web Services began with a simple storage solution (S3) and grew into a multi-service, scalable infrastructure, our journey will start with a first step and continue with consistent execution over a number of years. We are up for that challenge." -matt

"Industrial Designers just make it pretty" 🌻 I think it's the biggest myth surrounding what we do. Throughout my career, I don't think I was ever asked explicitly to make something "pretty." More often than not, I am brought on to a project to generate divergent solutions, set priorities, advocate for human-centered approaches, and turn ideas into appropriate and manufacturable designs. Here's what I'm usually asked to do for clients: 🎯 "Improve the usability of our interface." 🎯 "Make this complex procedure more intuitive." 🎯 "Brainstorm alternative approaches to this function/feature." 🎯 "Turn this expensive proof of concept into something we can make at scale." 🎯 "Combine these two technologies/devices." 🎯 "Make this task ergonomic and comfortable." 🎯 "Craft a visual language that resonates with customers and promotes our values." For the algorithm, I've attached an image of my retro-fit filament dry-box solution for AON3D's legacy M2 machine. Initially, the priorities were speed to market and environmental protection for the filament.
