Flow visualization is an essential tool for science education

🌍✨ Amazing time at the European Researchers' Night in our lab! ✨ We had a lot of fun demonstrating flow visualization during this year’s event! Using soap bubbles and a small custom-built multi-fan wind generator, we were able to create beautiful and dynamic visualizations of airflow. 🫧 But we didn’t stop there! We also ran real-time Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) using the amazing SmartPIV app (https://smartpiv.app/). This allowed participants to see velocity vectors on the spot, bringing cutting-edge research to life in an interactive way. 📲💡 It was a fantastic opportunity to engage with the public, share the wonders of fluid dynamics, and inspire curiosity in science! 🙌💫 #EuropeanResearchersNight2024 #FluidDynamics #FlowVisualization #PIV #ScienceOutreach #STEM #SmartPIV Kudos to Iacopo Tirelli Juan Alfaro Moreno Carlos Sanmiguel Vila José Luis Oterino Palmero Stefano Discetti for setting up this great activity! Special thanks also to Rodrigo Castellanos of the Aeroelastic and Structural Design Lab for leading with Juan Alfaro Moreno the construction of the multi-fan array, and Adrian Grille Guerra and Andrea Sciacchitano for the great advice on soap-bubbles generation! This is a dissemination activity of the NEXTFLOW project, funded by the European Research Council (ERC) Starting Grant, grant n. 949085 Aerospace Engineering UC3M UC3M - PhD Program in Aerospace Engineering EPS UC3M #NocheEuropeaInvestigadores #MadridNight #NIGHTspain #EuropeanResearchersNight #WindWall #PIV
