I help women in business to create coaching programs. Here's my advice on how to successfully pivot into coaching: 💰 Know your worth. A lot of women feel really confident in pricing themselves in their business, but when they decide to start coaching, they under-sell themselves. DO NOT do this. Your knowledge and expertise are the same, it's just a different way of sharing it. ✨ Know when to outsource. A lot of creating coaching programs involves tech and set up, and if you're not familiar with this, then don't stress out too much and force yourself to learn a new skill 🗒️ Know when to change your workload. A huge benefit of coaching is that you can begin to focus less on 1:1 client work, and more on building programs and courses. Be prepared to make this shift, and don't overwork yourself. 🗣️ Know your audience. By this stage in your career, you are probably an expert, but the people you will be coaching will be beginners. Online group coaching -Mmm? I was contacted last week and was invited to be part of a group of online coaches. This is not for me although it's always nice to be asked. I've done the research and explored the possibility of online group coaching but it doesn't sit easily with me. 1-2-1 all the way. I was also asked if I kept up to date with my competition; I'm still not sure why. I realised that apart from taking a professional interest in coaching as a profession I'm not concerned with what other coaches are doing. So my reply was "I don't work competitively I work creatively". Each client and each coaching session is unique. I know many coaches do offer group packages and free 'stuff' and I'm sure a proportion of them make a very good living. I know that many coaches are now fully committed to using AI. I'm sure it has many useful applications however I believe that coaching is a personal business. My clients, mid-life professional women, want exclusivity and a personalised approach. They want insightful questions, deep listening and a coach that can 'hold' the space for them while they explore new possibilities. They want to be challenged and empowered to deal with their perceived barriers. How will they get that in a group of other people? I enjoyed my conversation with the contact, she was speaking from the States, as it offered me the chance to take another look at my business and confirm that my approach works best for me and my clients. I hope I'm always open to opportunities and different ways of looking at things, but for now I'll be sticking with my 'personal concierge coaching service'. A significantly large portion of invitations to connect on LinkedIn are to: - 'help me grow my coaching business' - '10x my income' 🤑 - 'automate lead conversion' 🤑 - 'use AI to grow my business' 🤖 - et bloody cetera 😖 I acknowledge that it is a challenge to make a good enough income as a practitioner in the helping professions. All these people however, offer solutions and advice. This is not the coaching way. If a coaching client asked for a solution, process, advice, specific actions or anything like that, it's our ethical and professional responsibility to orientate them about what coaching offers, and how we work. We can't deliver on those requests, because we don't believe that's the best way for them to learn, grow, and engage differently with their challenges. Yet there's enough demand in the coaching domain that an entire industry is built around 'how to grow/10x/six-figure your coaching business with my super-duper program'. I have heard enough stories about these programs to know that they often come at an enormous cost to the coach. I'm not suggesting to never use process or strategy in running a coaching practice, but if those are doing the heavy lifting, it's going to catch up in the end when word gets out about the quality of practice on offer. Let's practice what we preach.
